I have had so much stress because of exams coming up, friendship problems, it feels like I have no one, and I have started self harming again- the thing is, it feels so right, like this is the thing i need to do, I can't help it :( I think I have the strength to stop but I don't want to, what should I do??

Before you can stop, you have to feel motivated. If you don't want to quit, then you never will unless someone forces you to.

i agree with shadowgirl. YOU have to want to help you. if you don't completely want to, you can relapse and it can get even worse... trust me on that.

You need motivation and of course patience, think of the advantages that you'll achieve when you won't cut anymore and also the consequences that might happen when you continue to cut.

I know, it really is getting worse, but I can't think of any disadvantages to cutting :/

Explaining to your kids one day what the scars are from?

Well I now do it on my stomach so they won't see, but I'm close to doing it on my upper arms, it won't get close to scars.. Hopefully..

It's releasing endorphins so you feel better. Exercising will do the same thing and will make you healthier all around. You won't be doing it forever. I never heard of an adult cutter. Pretend someones watching you do it, what they would think and how harmful and ultimately stupid it is. Sorry but it is. Be strong. Good luck.

I have tried exercising, it works but not as much as cutting. I'm just gonna have to try and do it less

Then exercise more. I know I can't relate completely, but everyone is stronger than they think they are.

do what you can, but try to stop ONLY IF YOU WANT TO. i quit for 6 months at one point cuz of a bf... I couldn't take it anymore and just snapped. Yay for multiple super deep cuts. <-------sarcasm

You're supporting her problem? WTF am I doing here then?

I'm not supporting it. Ive had experience with this and if she doesn't want to quit, she wont. SHE has to make the decision.

Sorry I just have to say there are a lot of adults who cut. Statistically it's younger adults, but adults all the same.

I do agree with this.
No it's not a great thing to be doing but each one of us self harms in some way, alcohol, drugs, etc. Obviously the hope would be you can stop, but you have to do it how you need to. Sometimes it isn't good to just stop, maybe you can just try and limit damage? Eventually you can start reducing it, and then at some point stop completely. Do it at your own pace no one elses.

If you dont believe you can stop, then you can't. You have to know that you are too good of a person to do this, and do anything to take your mind off of it.

I was hoping that's what it was.
Sorry I seem so naive. Just trying to help.
