How come A lot of topics that go into p101 are not puberty related.

I mean how is "have you ever been caught mastubating" puberty related.

I just dont understand as I am a member of a few sites that have a puberty for boys section and they are much more clear/strict on what they have classified as puberty.

So why is it that we allow a lot of these threads to go about.

(p.s please dont flame me, I am just asking)

Honestly, the rules state:

The only sexual questions permitted, are sex-ed questions. Don't ask for techniques or ways to masturbate or have sex. Don't ask questions about how to masturbate with friends. In addition, do not post stories about sex or masturbation unless it strictly pertains to you getting help. Any types of explicit content is not allowed.

This is a bit loose about how it permits questions but if the person words it right then it will come out Sex-Ed...ish. I can't really say I disagree with what you're saying but the fact is that asking if someones ever been caught in the act is not inappropriate unless they go into detail about what they were doing and what-not.

Look into the Puberty 101 Archive and see what we DO lock and not allow. You'll see there are much worse questions to be locked. To some, asking if others have ever been caught can be a way to help calm someone who thinks they just did, or help assure them that they aren't alone.

We don't allow inappropriate things into Puberty 101. That's all there is to it.

Good question... I only really lock threads I believe to be posted for the purpose of an erotic nature or are simply inappropriate as specified in the rules. Those things both fall under 'sex-ed' and constitute for danger; asking if anyone has been caught masturbating just seems to be out of curiosity rather than something that could be dangerous.

I've been watching P101 for years, that's just the way I see it.

In short, VT has too many damn rules and even the staff know it. Thus, no one enforces it as is written.

That's actually not true at all. We pay attention to all of the rules. It'd be interested for you to name some that we don't act upon.

I do have to agree with this rule slightly.

There are many rules here on VT, and all of them are taken seriously enforced, but not of them to the same degree.

For example, the mods are very productive at censoring innapropriate images, websites, etc...

However, I do agree with the P101 forum problems. For example, take a look at this thread (it was in puberty for boys when I saw it, I don't know it is was moved)

It isn't sex ed, and has plenty of answers. There are just too many of these floating around.

Thats what I was trying to get at things that are maybe only loosely and i mean very loosely related to p101 is allowed and then you get stuff like that...good find

I moved it because it wasn't sex-ed. Sorry we didn't get to it quicker, it's difficult to keep up with P101 sometimes.

Yeah, I explained that - the question is based on how the rule is interpreted I guess. Some people will think we act too strictly, and others feel we are far too liberal. I think we have a good balance.

But it was locked before it was even posted here :?

I understand, you guys do a great job anyway :)

I think the OP was trying to stress on how some of the rules are taken into account, but not on the level he would like to see them.

That's alright bud :) It's understandable everyone wants to see the forum moderated differently, but some people will want the exact opposite...

What I was saying is that some things just are not really p101 related and that we let a lot slide on Vt compared to other forums (Donkey even admits this himself)

I suppose I was just wanting to share my thaughts

Because its not a question 8 year olds would want to ask each other, or 40 year olds. Its a part of the normal curiosity teens have when they discover masturbation.

I believe that puberty 101 questions fall into a very grey area, especially for some of them.
Everyone would access a question differently and answer it differently.
And based on that, it would go into a different direction.

There are as well some questions, which going by topic may seem dangerous, but looking at the details, it may seem pretty educating. It works in both directions.
Which in such light, makes moderation alittle tougher at times.

Everyone's perception of erotic nature may differ.
Rules act as a guideline, and if followed too strictly, many good aspects may be missed as well, enforcing rules on the thread would be to staff's discretion.

Its not an eazy job to begin with.
There are no right or wrong answers, only opinions and perspectives.

When I modded P101, I did it similar to Jon. It's really not worth it locking every thread that isn't a sex-ed question, because most of them aren't. And honestly, most of the people that join this forum do it to ask a few questions on P101 that they are curious about. Everyone is just a little self-conscious and wants to know how other teenagers their age act. Enforcing stricter rules would only divert possible members from joining. Give the 14 year olds what they want, as long as it is not posting porn or asking to cam or something along those lines, and the members that frequent P101 will be happier and we will probably have more users joining.

I always tend to report topics that do not fit into the rules to help the moderators out. That would be the quickest way to get their attention about a topic. They are not robots and can often miss out topics (Every moderator can no matter how big a site is or how the rules are done).
