OK, so me and my brother had dinner and my grandma and grandpa's today. I hadn't eaten anything since breakfast and only had a small dinner of chopped carrots, cucumber and an egg so I was able to eat almost all of it which I was proud of myself for...now my grandparents know about my eating disorder but aren't good at dealing with it. They looked at my almost empty plate and went on and on about how well I did and how proud they were...that kind of thing always makes me feel really fat as it reminds me that I almost cleared my plate and I just have a mental block when it comes to clearing my plate. I had a really bad day today with some bad news so it was all too much. Ever since then I have been so tempted to stick my fingers down my throat and sick up what I ate. I have never done that before...never ever been tempted to. I don't know how to deal with this...I can still taste the food it my mouth and its making me feel horrible...please help me!

My sister was the same way, can taste the food in her mouth, she brushes her teeth when it gets like that. She hasn't done any purging for, I think 2 years now so I think this has helped her.

Have you had any mints or anything like that? Sometimes that can help get the taste away.

Distractions. You need distractions of some sort. Also, gum. It'll get the taste of food out of your mouth.
I don't have an ED (or rather, never been diagnosed with anything) but purging is not something to start. I do it and it's hard to stop.
Just listen to music, watch tv, read a book, go for a walk, or even stay around your family until the temptation stops. It's going to be tough to not want to purge, but it'll be MUCH tougher to stop once you've started.

Thanks guys, I will try both of these! Hopefully if I can get the taste out of my mouth it will be easier for me to distract myself

Thank you, I have been trying watching comedies and stuff but I just can't focus....the fact that none of my family is home makes it that much worse because I know that if I did it then they would never know...I am trying though!

Purging is a very painful act and in the long run only adds onto your problems, not fix them. Eating all of your dinner is not something to be ashamed of. If it would make you feel better, though, use smaller plates. Eating on a tiny plate rather than a massive one can trick your brain into thinking you're eating less when you are actually eating the same serving as everyone else. This normally works for me.
Of course, the small-plate trick can also work in the opposite direction. Eating on a small plate may make your brain think you are eating more when you are actually eating less, thus making you less hungry. This should only be used when you are truly trying to diet to lose weight, which you do not seem to need to. Trust me, you aren't overweight, you have no need to diet.

Sweetheart, purging won't fix anything. In fact, it doesn't even get rid of as many calories as people think. Your body absorbs the calories not long after it's in your system. Anyway, you are beautiful and even if you weren't, who gives a damn. You won't be any happier if you're skinny. You'll still have insecurities, you'll still want to be skinnier, you'll still think you're not good enough.
But you are. And eating disorders are no ways to treat yourself. You deserve more, better than that. When you feel like sticking your fingers down your throat, remember how proud everyone was of you. Remember how proud you are of yourself. Don't you want to get better? Don't you want to be free?
Perfection is found in being skinny or having "control". There's no point in chasing something that doesn't exist. Good luck, hun. I'm here if you need me.

Faith and Trust
