This is an entire episode of Dispatches, if you're willing to watch it. Watch all of it if you can.

This really sickens me. To see that fundamentalist Christianity is actually a growing problem in Britain really winds me up. What I hate is that the people followed and interviewed by Dispatches can't even back up their reasons for bringing extremist religion to the courts - they turn their microphones off and refuse to engage in discussion. This has happened two or three times in this episode.

Oh, and there are schools teaching children that the Earth is 6 to 10,000 years old. Andrea from the episode believes it's 4,000. I'm really, really shocked. I know I shouldn't be, and that ignorance and intolerance are really really prominent, but still.

Your views and opinions?

Yeah... you'll find a lot of things enraging in this. The school bit, homophobia, Islamophobia, general ignorance, and the list continues...

I watched it....

And those people piss me off just as much as the WBC... I want to throw science textbooks at them. I laughed so hard when the interviewer asked Andrea (or whatever the hell her name was...) how old the earth is... then she said 4,000 years old... then he mentioned fossils... then she asked to turn the camera off. Oh, I had such a smile of satisfaction on my face. What pisses me off, though, is that they are becoming a bigger and bigger problem! They're like a tumor you can't get rid of... OH and I saw a sign that said: "Women deserve better than abortion." I almost slapped my computer monitor... It's like saying: "Women deserve to give birth to babies that they don't want because they are baby popping machines and not people."

I watched the first five minutes and I'm too steamed to finish it right now. It just baffles me how ignorant people could be. I mean if homosexuality bothers you, then don't talk to gay people or think about them. Why should you be allowed to control their lives? Because God said so? No. That's like me saying I'm going to persecute people with brown hair because my imaginary friend said brown hair is an abomination. I just beat up my pillow in rage. I'll probably have to finish the episode tomorrow.

They are doing this why, god says not to? Don't force your opinion on others. People can live as they wish unless they are murderers or rapists ect. And if they were true blue Christians they wouldn't be so violently voicing themselves.

These are not true chistians, if they would have read the scripture in Matthew, "He who go out from the synagogues,to pray and preach in the street,is not a follower of god but a hypocrite"...

That's my opinion on the subject..

They've got backing from conservative politicians (and other ones). At least they did at the time of this documentary, which was October last year.

After watching this I can't imagine how uninformed some people must be to think Islamic Law is a big [maybe a bigger] threat in Britain.

Lol yeah, they were talking about the threat of extremist Islam and how Muslims were 'pushing their faith' on Britain... HMMMMMM

I watched part of part 1 before I had to turn it off. Raging so hard. These kids have been brainwashed by their sick Religion. Seeing the bit where the young girl was doing a SCIENCE test and it was all about GOD! WTF? That's not science! It really sickens me that there are people like that living in this country. So mad right now.

Good heavens! I'm Catholic and I am definitely anti-abortion for biological and moral reasons, but this........this is stupidity....you cannot take the Bible word for word and be so gullible!!!!!!!!!!! Bloody idiots!!!!!!!!
I believe in evolution.........I'm studying Biology and chemistry for my A-levels and there's definitive proof that evolution has taken place and is taking place all the time.....

I respect homosexuality because everyone deserves to be happy....homosexuals are not causing pain or killing innocent human beings so comparing them to murderers or rapists is nothing short of disgusting....Just my two cents

This is ridiculous. There is no goddamn one religion. It's like saying "I'm asian. And if you're not asian, you suck. Asian is the only way. All other races are puny." If God or Jesus really does exist, this wouldn't wanna be what he'd want. What do you mean homosexuality is an abomination??? If god meant for homosexuals to be an abomination, he wouldn't put them on this goddamn earth. So what if you're gay? Flowers can reproduce asexually! Isn't that saying something?

Everyone sins. You can't be goddamn perfect. Abortion is an abomination? They're the goddamn abominations! You can do whatever the hell you want with yourself but don't go trying to convert everyone and tell them they'll rot in hell if they don't! Keep your beliefs to yourself! I don't go running around telling everyone to be Wiccan because if you don't, you're going to turn into salt.

The science question asks how many days did it take god to make the world??? What the hell is up with that! Learn real science. I'm not saying god doesn't exist. Maybe he does, hell, I don't know. But this is ridiculous. You're raising a child to be what you want them to be. Give them a goddamn choice!

Back to abortion. The guy doesn't suffer as much as the girl. Her childhood will be ruined. Her chance at a normal life. Her life.

No religion teaches you bad. It's human beings who twist it up in their minds. God didn't write the bible or the quran. Wiccan rede: An it harm none, do as ye will.

In criticising other religions, you are criticising your own.

Well... I never considered it because all the christians I have met had an entirely different mindset. I wasn't being apologist, I simply overlooked a rather large factor >.>

You weren't talking to me but... most religions yes.

EDIT: Most religions teach you to do good. Unless it's Satanism or something of the sort. The definition for religion is pretty vague... The belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power. I'm pretty sure that applies to aliens.

Well, I don't think I believe in "God" as in some almighty being that... Never mind. I'm just gonna end up ranting on about Wicca or atheism, or both. But if god did exist, I don't think it's telling us to "Go kill someone. Kick and annoy if they're not ." Does it really even [I]matter? It's like going on strike because someone likes pink. People can believe whatever the hell they want. They just don't have to force it upon others. The world isn't black and white. It's an endless, never ending gray. But that's just what I think.

If you're pissed, punch yourself in the face. If you're frustrated, stab your own leg. If you want to be christian, go and be christian, it doesn't mean the entire goddamn world needs to as well.

Sorry for saying goddamn so much... At least I don't cuss... Much.

I wanted to slam my computer at their heads when I heard that. I'm still extremely pissed. About half of my friends are gay or lesbian and it's like they've insulted half of the bloody population. And masturbation is perverting innocence? What is up with that? Do they learn bloody science? They just offended the entire bloody population.

If god intended homosexuals and bisexuals to be abominations, they wouldn't exist.

I'm sorry Sage but I don't think that you can just draw the line like that. In our country, most people are Roman Catholic. I go to a Catholic school run by Jesuits. In our school, there are also atheists who are very open about their ideas, but they attend said school because it is one of the best schools on the island. Yes, ATHEISTS IN A CATHOLIC SCHOOL. Why not?

We don't feel the need to be disrespectful to each other here so no, I don't think the problem is 'systemic'. It's just that like with most things in life....it's always 'the bad ones' that stand out.

What happened to Do unto others as you would have them do unto you? How would they like it if the Muslims they despised so much said the same about them and made such a big fuss about it? They think Islam is a a false religion built on hate? What about Christianity? how many people have been killed, how many lives destroyed? The witch hunts? The battle between Catholics and protestants? The people who have been forced to convert? How many lives have been lost in the name of religion?

Sure, some Muslims kill and hate. Just as some buddhists, atheists, christians, homosexuals, hetrosexuals, people who like pink, black and blue do. it's ridiculous to persecute someone based on sexuality or religion.

when you point at others, 3 fingers are pointing back at you.The difference between sexuality and religion, is that sexuality is innate, and religion is inserted. Sexuality does not teach you, it tells you what you are. Religion teaches, and tells you what to do.

Sexuality does not command to hate. But religion does commands to hate.

Which part's the extreme generalisation? That most religions teach you good? Yes. Most of them do. Humans just warp it up in their twisted minds. God didn't write the Quran or the bible. And if he did exist, I don't think he/she/it would be asking everyone to persecute and kill each other. Anyway, even if you look at what the quran/bible/moral code goes here, it's not evil.

Christianity: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
Wicca: An it harm none, do as ye will.
Islam: You shall have your religion and I shall have my religion.
Hinduism: Those who live in accordance with the divine laws without complaining, firmly established in faith, are released from karma. Those who violate these laws, criticizing and complaining, are utterly deluded, and are the cause of their own suffering.
Buddhism: The Law is equal, equal for all beings.

True, some of the teachings are utter crap(in my opinion). But like I said, I don't think Deity(if there is one) wrote any of the moral codes. But then again... The definition of religion is pretty vague...

This thought did cross my mind, but the closed-minded stupidity of the entire thing was actually quite amusing, so I didn't make a particularly sensible comment. That science paper was NOT science.
