I go onto http://www.big-boards.com these days and half of the active forums that were majorly awesome a few years back are now dead, some no longer exist and some inhabited by bots.
It just goes to show that many forums are a thing of the past. Social networks are the new thing out.
What are your thoughts?

maybe, maybe not. I find social networks dreadfully dull and boring and pointless. forums are better and more fun

Forums will always have a place, as they aren't tied to your real identity, such as this site. Which will allow you to speak openly about your problems without fear of being ridiculed.

You took the words from my mouth! Also, whilst some forums may be dying out, new forums are being created, and new members are joining older forums every day, so no, I wouldn't say forums were dying out by any stretch of the imagination.

Internet forums are basically a branch of social networking. If forums die, then social networking as a whole will begin to die.

I seem to visit both on a regular basis..mostly tech forums besides this and tend to stay away from the social networking sites...I think it is just a matter of preference. The few forums I am active in seem to be pretty active most of the time.

This forum isn't on Big Boards. So VT does not apply to my statement.
