View Full Version : The Psychiatric Ward--Reorganized slightly

Personally I think The Psychiatric Ward is very unorganized. While I think the forums we have that are in that section are fine, I think a little organization is needed. Therefore, I have proposed this:
Psychiatric Ward
--Abuse
--Cutting and Self Harm
--Drugs and Meds
--Mental Crisis
--Mental Illnesses
----------ADD/ADHD
----------Bipolar (Manic Depressive)
----------Depression, Loss, and Grief
----------Eating disorders
----------Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
----------Schizophrenia
--VT General Hospital
As you can see the change isn't that drastic but it does a lot when you look at it. It's much more organized and similar subjects are grouped together. All the mental disorders would be subforumed to Mental Illnesses. The "Other mental illnesses" forum would be scraped and moved to the "Mental Illnesses" forum as a general forum. Then in that forum the specific mental illness subforums would follow.
As you can see it reduces the number of main forums from 12 to 6. Nothing is really lost or changed, but it's just more simple and organized without the clutter.
What does everyone thing?

I would agree to it. Except take depression, loss, and grief out.

Depression is a major mental illness. :?

Exactly, it belongs on it's own.

Oh, i thought you meant "take out" as in removing it completely.

I don't like that, that seems more cluttered to me than the way it is now. Seems complicated, I dunno, just don't like it.

Also what, happens to people who don't fit into those mental illness catergories, but are still mentally unwell? we still need an "other mental illnesses" forum.

Hmmm, I don't like the idea, nor do I dislike. I don't care if you do it, but I think when it comes to change, I'm 55% no change, and 45% change. I don't visit those forums much, but I think its easier the way it is, the Mental Illness forum being a general forum will receive more threads, and certain peoples threads might not be read if threads overflow the forum. I don't really care, but I think I'd prefer it to stay the way it is.

I still think this is a good idea. We can cut down on how cluttered and messy the front page looks. Doesn't it seem sorta hard to navigate?

Well here's Bobby's suggestion in play and I think this is a lot better.

About the mental illness issue Infidel addressed. Here's what I mean in case I was unable to explain correctly:

And take out eating disorders. I don't think mental illness when i think of eating disorders. And that would make the sub-forums only 1 line.

Mmm I like this one. I think that the Ward needs a bit of organistation, esspecially seeing as the sub forums above are the least used.
I think I'll add a poll to this to get an overall figure of who would like to see it changed etc.

Ok I fixed that slight voting error. Although your name won't appear on the Whos Voted, but your vote has been transfered.

lol admins can change polls, i can see some uses for that:D. But anyway ya i think the more used sections in the Psychiatric Ward should be near the top.

Ok, well now I've got a question - can we change the description of the forum to something clearer? I think it should be something that says 'If none of the subforums cover your question, feel free to post in the main forum!' or something like that.
