View Full Version : Should I be worried about my father?

Okay, so, my father has degenerative bone disease in his back and scoliosis, as well as he just left the Emergency Room not two weeks ago and I took him because he was complaining of heart pains. I live alone, but he asked me to stay with him for a week or so to help him with running his business. He's going through a divorce right now that is hitting him really hard and about two weeks ago he got drunk and threatened suicide (completely out of character for him, he's usually a very upbeat person and never drinks). Anyways, ever since he got on Prozac and Xanax he has seemed to mellow out and be happier, but tonight he went to sleep abnormally early and fell asleep with the lights on complaining that he just didn't feel right. After about 30 minutes I realized his light was still on so I knocked on his door and had to scream his name to wake him up as he had locked his door and I couldn't get in. When he answered he seemed incoherent and said he was just going to sleep with his lights on in his room. Should I be worried that something is going to happen to him or that he's in there having some issue/medical issue?

If you are worried take him back to the doctors or someone trained.
Again his body may not be responding to his medication or his body may feel empty due to the divorce
Also about the sleep thing....Medication can make you go into very deep sleeps

I'm just too worried to go to sleep thinking that if I wake up and he has a heart attack or something of that nature..I really don't know how I would handle that.

Is he sleeping in a bed? If so tell him that the bed needs to be taken out of the room into a more opened area or he is to keep the door opened. Just so you can keep an eye on him.

There are a few instances which have cause this, one being the divorce , and the other his medical condition.
What he needs most is the support and someone to be there for him. It is something very hard for anyone to take it down alone.
Depressions lead maybe lead to sickness, as the body's physical condition deteriorate.
It's best if you a able to sleep with him in his room, just to ensure he is alright.
Spend more time talking to him, trying to understand him definitely helps.
Through these hardest of times, it's always better if someone is there for him.
All the best
