I had read the forums about trimming vs. shaving and I trimmed just today, and I took the risk of it hurting. My only question: how long does it usually last, or it's different for every person?

If shaving or trimming is hurting you, maybe you are doing it the wrong way?
It should not be a hurting process.
Do care to elaborate what actually happened? Perhaps posting it in VT Hospital may help you more for that matter.
