Thoughts? Opinions?
Is it the long mentioned "adventure" patch?

I can break bedrock now? Fucking awesome. I just hope that it's easier to find iron ore. I get tired of digging.

1.8 is set to be the Adventure Update, I know that much. I'm anxious to see what happens with the whole thing, as it's shaping up to be really, really cool.

Because that's when he (Notch) wants it to come out.

It's apparently almost done, according to Notch's Twitter, he was off to "finish up 1.8" when he got back from some convention or something. As September is nearing, it'll be right on schedule.
The official game release is scheduled for November 11th. 1.8 is supposed to come about midway between the announcement of 1.8 and the release, as it is most likely the last patch before it is released.

It seems fucking amazing. The changes and additions are purely beneficial, there's nothing I hate about it at all. This game is an unfinished game, so Notch can do whatever the fuck he wants with it, and Minecraft will solely be defined by what is included in the official release and on. Regardless of how long we've been playing. *cough* 1.2 *cough*
I would also take a look at the forum topic about 1.8. Some of this stuff I haven't heard of, and some of it sounds a bit outdated. Like the Endermen description.

The Endermen aren't even that scary. It's like Slenderman in Minecraft form. Nothing really frightening. I like the way it teleports though. That's pretty cool. Hopefully block generation is faster and the issue with saves being lost/corrupted is fixed. I just lost a save file where I was just ONE block away from completing a huge bridge when the game just crashed.

No, but I like the idea Notch described in his blog. :P With having them stare at you until you look away and then teleporting up to you. :P I'm sure in-game they'll be just like creepers for me. Don't bother me (or, in the creeper's case, are completely adorable) until they sneak up behind me in a dark cave while I'm mining some iron... I won't notice the enderman until I've already turned around to get the iron and then poof.
