Okay my motherboard is fucked on my laptop and it will not go and in order to get it fixed I need to get a new motherboard and then get it fixed which will turn into a good few hundred bucks. The other option is getting a new second hand laptop or saving up for a completely new one but that would take longer.

What are your thoughts? Should I get it fixed or get a second hand one?

Compare the costs. A new motherboard could make your "old" laptop seem pretty new (depending on specs, etc.. maybe some more RAM.
Second hand stuff is jsut not for me for the most part.. esp electronics. but if it comes with a warranty... it may be worth it.
Look into sites like Dells Outlet store-- can get some pretty good deals there..not sure about other manufactures having similar but it may be an option.
At least with a new motherboard you will get some type of warranty

My current laptop runs Toshiba M5. But I've had some problems with Dell with PC's.

Compare as if you dont look around you wont be able to tell. A new one would cost a bit but again a new motherboard will cost a bit as well

Up to you

Motherboard repairs are almost never worth it, for example a customer brought me his laptop worth 500 new (2 years ago) and a refurbished motherboard for this laptop costs 400 dollars, added installation fees would have cost him the amount of a newer, faster laptop. Save your money and don't go for second hand electronics. Just buy a new one

Ouch. I guess the thing I'm wanting to know is if Toshiba's are worth it and if they are if I should buy a new or move to a different brand.

If it's not a matter of cost, I'd suggest getting a new one?
Electronics go through the same wear and tear cycle. Repairing would possibly mean the other mechanisms are going down as well.

You would soon see escalated, progressive cost in the maintenance of an aging product.

And reason why? :P Looking into reasons really. Been on a couple of forums where half and half like them and don't but really no one gave a valid reason.

I've seen about 20 Toshiba Satellite motherboards that have crapped out from overheating, not abuse. Customer support was horrible
