I understand that visitor messages are moderated, but what are the guidelines for allowing or not allowing them and what's the process for moderating them?

Uhmmmmm.....it's quite simple, really.
If you're not a member for at least 3 months with and 250+ posts, then your VMs are put into the moderation queue, and then we staff have to approve it before the other person can see it.
Of course, for us to approve it, it has to follow all of the rules and stuff.
Otherwise, it gets deleted, and you get a PM explaining why that is not allowed.
