My friends are really worried about me, and want me to go see someone. I self harm, not badly, but i do it all the same, but its nearly been 3 weeks, and the urges are becoming next to nothing.... but they still want me to see someone about it. Honestly, Im terrified..... what do you think I should do? Cos if Im honest I cant see the point in going now :S x

i think you should go. it can be a really good experience if you go to the right person. just like meeting new people, some personalities clash. some therapists/psychologists will be more helpful to you than others. i've been to quite a few, and the one i have now is amazing. she's super nice, doesn't judge, and we do a bunch of activities and talk and stuff. i say give it a try, the worst that happens is it doesn't help and you stop going, right? :)
do a little research on local offices and what they offer, then talk to your parents. you don't have to say you cut, but try to come up with a suitable reason for wanting to see a psychologist. also, if you trust your doctor/pediatrician, they can be good to talk to.

Maybe you should go. I've been thinking about seeing one, and decided that if someone can try and help me quit...even if I don't want to, I should go.
Good luck, hun :)

I think its worth trying, you might find that they really help and you are glad your friends told you to go! You have nothing to lose :)
Also, three weeks is amazing, fight off these urges!!

I think that it may be good for you, even if you manage to stop SH-ing and stuff on your own.
And if it just "isn't for you", then you can just quit, or get someone else if the first one don't feel good.

First, just wanted to say it's great you're managing the urges so well, and that they're going away a bit :) Sounds like some progress.
If you think there's a chance seeing someone could help, it might be worth a try. Even if things seem to be going really well right now, life can be unpredictable. Totally your decision. Just if you think you could benefit from it, seeing someone might be something to consider.
Hope all is well :)

I think you should go, you never know what the extra support can do for you. With the right therapist they may be able to get you to open up more and face the roots of why you do it so you can really get better :)

Go if YOU feel it is right.. Do not go just to fill somebody's or everybody's expectations.... Because then what if you fall out with that person? Or even get angry at them? You'll want to quit because you're doing it for THEM. You shouldn't do it for them, you NEED to do it for YOURSELF in order to successfully get better... Trust me, I know this from experience. If you feel like you MIGHT want to go, and they pressure you to, then that can turn out okay, because in the end you'll be doing it for yourself, not them...but as I said before, do not go just to fill their expectations.
That said, yes, I do think you should see a professional, I think anybody who is depressed, self-harming or who has gone through something traumatic should - Therapy can be great.

i have given up... for myself. They just want me to go to therapy so next time something majorly bad happens i have other methods of dealing with it... if that makes sense :S x
