The best way to find out, is to observe, get close to him, then ask.

Asking him too directly, or interrogating would likely not get the answer you are really looking for.
It may push him back and ultimately withdraw from you.

The trust level between 2 of you is the key factor to attain his confession.
But do not force an answer out of him, but rather let him tell it to you naturally.

You may hint to him certain aspects along the way, but its good to have a clear observation before jumping to any conclusions.
