I have acne, on my chin and forehead. Does anyone have suggestions to make it go away? I looked about Proactive but someone said that a 13 year old shouldn't take it because it's harsh to your skin and you won't want to ruin it at a young age. Do you think they are right, if so, what else could I use? :D If it's the wrong section, sorry, move it.

Its pretty simple at ur age and from what you have described, to compleatly clear up your acne go out to CVS or whatever store like that you use and get a face wash that has 10% Benzoyl peroxide it should say on the back. and then use that to waash ur face in the morning and at night and also wash ur face witha towel just using soap and water once a day.

i never really had acne but as prevention i use a daily cleanser from neutrogena that helps clear and prevent acne and it works very well.

All of the popular medications that are found at your local drugstore such as Acne X, Proactive, Neutrogina, etc. contain a chemical similar to bleach (Benzoyl peroxide) while others contain certain levels of acid. This isn't the best for your skin as it'll dry it out (as it's meant to do) and possibly leave scarring.
I've found a company that I REALLY like and have invested in by trying quite a smorgasbord of their products. Whenever I'm in the city, the only place they have a retail store near me, I try new things and ask for suggestions and end up walking away with an empty wallet. The brand is Lush. Lush produces natural, organic body and facial products.
If you use the Lush locator on their website (google Lush, it's the website with the whiteish background that reads "fresh homemade cosmetics") you can see if there's a store near you. If there is, that's ideal; go to the store and have an associate look at your skin- they'll know exactly what you need. If there isn't a store near you then I recommend trying one of the following products (these are ones I have used that work well):
- Herbalism
- Grease Lightening
- Cosmetic Warrior
- Ocean Salt (just got this one and it's the best)
- Black Face
- Mask of Magnaminty
I must warn you that most of these products are not cheap but they work VERY well, they're safe and they're worth the money.

If you're acne becomes a very serious issue and begins to plague your face, you may consider investing in a face peel. These run around $65 - $120 depending on the quality, concentration and applier of the peel. It also depends on where you're located when getting one (which part of the U.S./Europe). Seeing as you're in the Carolina's, it should be a bit on the cheaper side. These work by applying a highly concentrated amount of FDA approved acid onto your face (along with other chemicals). This then burns off the top layer of the skin removing the acne and preventing new acne from arising.

Nick, although it sucks to hear- we're teenagers, it's just the way it is. We're going to have acne and there's little we can realistically do about it. I shudder at the amount of money I've spent to try and clear mine up and, albeit it's worked to some extent, it's not totally clear. I've been to multiple dermatologists, doctors, laser surgeons (never ended up getting lazered- $1200 was WAY to expensive). I've used proactive, Acne X, Neutrogina, Clearasil, Clearall, etc. Literally EVERYTHING you can find over the counter and most prescriptions. I've gone to upscale department stores and tried their products (like things at Saks and Bergdorfs) and they haven't worked all that well either.
It's awful but in a few years, it should go away on its own.

Acne, I HATE IT! I have tried every product in the book (i.e Proactive, Neutrogena, etc) and none of them work, it just made my skin much worse! I currently go to a dermatologist and I take a pill called Minocycline which works pretty well. You should try visiting a dermatologist and see what she or he recommends. Just see a dermatologist because it's really the best thing you can do. Also, I take lemon juice (from a bottle) and rub it all over my face at night at don't wash it off. It helps reduce acne and the bleach in the lemon juice lightens acne scars. Also, WASH YOUR FACE A LOT! Always keep your face clean, ALWAYS! Hope this helps!

St. Ives Apricot Scrub works really well, I also make my own homemade facial masks that work really well.
