Why would you even consider a Macbook Air? They are completely a waste of money. Go with the Macbook pro.

MacBook Pro, you can actually put a disk in it and not worry about snapping it in half.

I didn't see a disc drive on the pro:confused:

It's a slot, not a flimsy plastic drawer. It does exist though. Go with the Pro!

Macbook Pro. There is a disk drive, and they are much more powerful.

If you decide on a crapple machine, Go for the macbook pro.
In all honesty, they're a waste of money

Agreed, re-think the price for what you'll get, you'll realize the savings if you don't buy apple. If you must, then buy the pro. Also if you just want Mac for the OS there are other options.

The airs have been updated so that they're nearly the equivalent of what a regular macbook used to be. Solid state hard drives are the culprits of that one. But if you want a really powerful machine, go with the pro. I have one, but I got it for music recording, which requires a pretty powerful CPU.

False. They're not a waste of money. I do tech support on PC machines, so I know a fair bit about them, how they run, and everything. Macs are good for some things and PCs are good for others, but macs generally last longer, are more user friendly, and in all honesty, are just better quality.
Of course, this is all my opinion. But I've owned macs for the past four years of my life.

E: To the person who posted the Dell comparison: Dell laptops are low quality, I'd rather compare with HP or Sony
The MacBook air is not bad.
The SSD's are great performers, faster with a reduced failure rate than HDD's.
Also, Apple does not specify what turbo boost speeds of their computers.
MBA i5 1.7GHz goes up to 2.7GHz in turbo boost, plenty of speed as my pentium runs 2.6 with a low end GPU runs games well, though MacBook Air gaming is a blatant lie.
The i7 goes up to 2.9GHz from 1.8.
Paired with the SSD gives it an extra boost of speed.
MBA's have a software installed that utilizes the CD drive of a nearby PC/Mac and uses it as if it were the MBA's drive. The MacBook air is not a waste of money, provides equal performance (with i5 1.7GHz or i7) to the base MBP model, considering the MBP's don't receive such a turbo boost.
I'm personally saving up for the base 13" MBA.

My dad has two Dell laptops about 10 years old each and they're still running with no problems, slow now ofcourse it's a decade old but still nothing broken nothing wrong. If I can find an HP version of the pic I'll post it up :)
And yeah, SSD are much better than HDD but they're crazy expensive which is why you get such small space on the air's ssd. I have a 500GB harddrive on my little netbook, HDD yes, but I can dual boot Mac OSX and Windows 7 with all my games and HD movies and still have 200GB whereas that wouldn't fit on the air without and external drive.

I believe it's what you are using the MacBook for.
And which are the factors within each of them you would value for.
Are you looking for power, speed and storage? VS portability, storage.
What's important when choosing a lappy is what you need it for.
What applies to someone may not apply to you.
List out your needs and the choice would naturally be clearer.
Specs and dimensions are all listed, compare and contrast based on your requirements.
The only variance is you.
Cheers

The air is better for mobility and power.
It's not meant to have ton of files on it etc, for me it would be for occasional video and photo editing and playing non resource intensive games.
Also, if you feel the difference between a Windows computer or a Mac, you would feel a higher level of quality, it just feels better to use, and they last for a long time. By them time something would break, you would have upgraded to a newer computer.
Also, Apple designs software, quite a bit of hardware, and chooses a healthy balance of performance in their computers (no bottlenecking).
You don't feel that on a third party brand.
Sure Sony is higher quality than most of the other computer designers, it's an equal comparison to Apple.
Dell's prime was back in the XP days, and the M1330 was a bomb. ;) Not spending $1800 on Dell again.

If you really want to go for the apple go for the pro, the Airs are just a joke.

Go with the pro! I have one and its been awesome! Im not a tech nerd or anything, im just going on what i see. My friends have PCs and they're always complaining about something being wrong. Nothing ever goes wrong with my Mac.

Being a complete apple "fanboi"
After having both in my household, I suggest the macbook pro, as it is powerful and lightweight. Sure the air is cheaper but the Pro is just nicer to own, get me?

I assume you mean "PCs with Windows 7 on them"?
"PC" is a bit general. You are probably forgetting about the *nix community.
