Question but do you own a forum? Or even a site? I do and lots and lots of my friends own their own forums. I myself own one about the muppets but did a chat one but sold it due to personal reasons.

In the past I have attempted to have my own forum, but it never became active so I just deleted. As of right now, I run a highly populated forum (being the 2nd admin - of which, the only active admin) and I own my own computer website. As well as a 3rd website which I use to keep friends connected to my updates for ESET Security.

No, it would never have enough traffic on it. Plus I have better things to spend my money on than to have a website

That's why you tell people about it and go around the web to webmaster forums and drop a link inside their respected area for such and then do exchanges and stuff like that.

I have to pay for some of my content due to hardly anyone in the world knowing what The Muppets are.

Just as a note: the sharing of links to your forum is not allowed here.

===============

I wish I owned one sometimes. But then again, if I started one, there's already enough forums on the internet. So mine would just be "another brick in the wall", if you know what I mean. ;)

Half of them are so rubbish that Kevin smiles like this when they get closed.

I've run two written RP forums, one that lasted I believe to either its second or third-year anniversary. I didn't choose to be the admin though, it was a previous set-up but the original admin disappeared and I was voted to be the admin. It was a lot of fun while it lasted though.

Nope, I really don't want to, I'd end up a waste of my money, time, and effort as an unsuccessful forum where a few people meet then they are separated as the site dies.

I've never owned a forum, but I've been a moderator on a couple. Granted, they were both dying forums for GTA: San Andreas Multiplayer servers.

The only real work involved in running a webforum is not as admin but as "cheerleader". That's recruiting, spearheading, uber-posting. I've done a few, my own or someone else's.

I think the secret is specialization. And expectations. The forums I've been part of were small, friendly, private ones with a very narrow theme. By invitation. Yes, hard to advertise and get the word out, but who says that forums have to be large collections of strangers? The software is the same, only the goals are different. I even have one supporting my blog. Others where just my friends hang out - it's far and away the most efficient platform for a community, better than IM or websites or email or blogs.

Too many webforums now? I don't agree. I often wish I could locate more small friendly communities that match my exact interests. Then convince them to let me in, give me a try. But how do you find them? Word of mouth is sometimes the only way. Very inefficient in the computer age.

Server Error. :yeah:

That's what happens when my host doesn't even tell me they're doing some work on the host or w/e they're doing.

Currently running an art forum for sharing and helpful development, actually.

Proboards or IF! :P I'd never spend money on sites.

And advertising on other forums does wonders. If they allow it though, of course.
