That's no different than asking why Christianity to a Christian. :P Or why Judaism to a Jew? :P
Its what they truly believe in.
OP: I'm not sure if there are many active people on VT that are Buddhists, though like I said, I'm not entirely sure.

Hello, I'm not a Buddhist, but I felt the need to respond anyway. Start online, Look up basic principles of Buddhism, maybe some history, Beliefs, Life Style, ect. ect.
I advise you write a sort of religious journal. Write down your thoughts about what you read. Not exactly what they say, but what it means to you. That way it's more sincere.
If you can move on to entire books. Continue to write. Try some of the practices such as meditation. (I don't know a lot about Buddhism, Sorry)
Idk, Just my thoughts. Hope I helped.

i believe you look into why you want to be buddist, then there are a type of vow and other things. there are commitments, lets call them, that you agree to live by and do so.
looking at why you want to become a buddist is supposed to help clear your head and body so you are thinking clearly and making a confident choice. this what i've been told. i'm obviously not a buddist, but my doctor is and he has expressed step one, is figuring out why this is what you want.

...and your opinion contributed nothing to the thread.
Calen, try looking at some forums on the web.
Look up beginner chanting, how to make a meditation area, stuff like that. Read Buddha's history, it's really interesting and helpful.

I'm a Buddhist :)
I'm not a very strict Buddhist, but I felt the need to proclaim a faith for myself. I didn't want to just say atheist, because I live in an area where people seem to think Atheism is like the equivalent to Satansim. Plus, I feel like, spiritually, I am a Buddhist.
I did a lot of research before I began telling people that I was a Buddhist, and I don't regret converting. I love my religion. I felt alone in Christianity, pretending to believe in a God I didn't feel existed.

I'm Athiest, however I can you cannot join a religon if you aren't truely going to believe in it. Jave you looked at its backgrounds? Have you learnt its teachings? Its a lot harder to believe if you grew up with another religon such as Christanity. Though, I cannot help. I truely hope you are taking the correct choice.
