So I'm watching a movie right Now. It's supposed to be a comedy. This is what I just heard: "You walked in here all tragic and I thought I should come check for razor blades." The girl that it was said to doesn't self harm, she's not depressed, she was at her birthday party, she was happy.
This offended me. Have you ever felt that way about a careless self harm comment in a movie? If so, what was the comment?

I see what you mean, just reading that is a bit offending. To be honest I haven't really come across a movie that has any self harm related comments in them.

i posted a tread like this a couple of days ago about the way that the media depicts self harm. i have seen a few films with self harm in and the way they portray it offends me! to me thats not real life at all and if that the way that other people that dont self harm see me then no wonder were not accepted in society. stuff like what you said its just careless and hurtful.

there's definitley a stigma and secrecy surrounding SH which is probably why its portrayed so far from the truth in the media, not many people would be willing to stand up and say: "that's not how it is" because it means admitting your own SH addiction
It is quite offensive though, because people pick up on what the media says and emmulate it. So the image of SH becomes very different from the actuality and people perpetuate that false perception of it

I haven't heard anything like that in movies, no, but there's this song by Get Scared (It's called Setting Yourself Up for Sarcasm) where he sings "If I had common sense I'd cut myself or curl up and die". I think that was a kind of weird thing to say. As if cutting is a smart thing to do. But yeah, that might just be me.
