Dubstep is good but whats the male obsession about.... it gets a bit annoying after a while

I honestly don't get it either. The only "dubstep" I listen to is the soundtrack (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DFoL4Z73Y8A&feature=related) off A Serbian Film.

I don't get the hype with it either. It's really annoying, and really shit. Yes, the whole genre.

Dubstep, to me and many others, is more than a genre. Its a big community where everyone has the same thing in common, a love for dubstep and other similair genres, or sub genres, like Drumstep, Drum and bass, Ect...
I see it as a movement and a family, because i speak to a fricking lot of producers, high up in the game, radio 1 big type of people, and i help promote the music and support them, push their names out there. Its the fan boys who join it, because they think its " sick" but they have no idea whats good or bad, so they go to the biggest names at the moment, for example, skrillex. His music is great production, i admit, but his fans are complete geb ends.

Rant over :P

I wonder why Dj Fresh decided to start using dubstep in his dnb. Maybe because it's fucking trending? It's called sucking dick to get more listeners. His first album was alright, but you know, he just had to fuck his shit up.

And well, Modestep, I could give a fuck less about them.

Yeah, may be following the trend, but music evolves and adapts to what our generation likes.

Do you know what "Dubstep" is? HORSE SHIT IN A CAN! This latest regression in electronic music apparently involves repeating a simplistic quarter-melody over a basic stoned beat over and over and over again. If you're incapable of creating music like this by age five, it's time to separate into sperm and egg and go back where you came from. - Mark Prindle, One of the best music reviewers ever.

And anyway, u can't really say we are tools, its music, some hate, some like, some love, its the same with ANY music, just because u don't like it doesn't mean its shit, theres some genres I think are shit, doesnt mean the people that listen to it are tools.

It's fucking stupid. All of my friends like it, and I can't see why.

SamK
August 18th, 2011, 06:45 PM
haha, Seems we got a hater here.

It uses the structure from many genres, such as: 2 step, reggae, drum and bass, electro, dub and pushes them all into one to make a unique type of electronic music, it isnt just sounds mashed together and if a 5 year old can produce it, then how come i havent seen it yet?
It takes days and weeks to produce a top quality song, id like to see you produce a HALF decent song, then you can input your opinion.

Yes it does! They just follow along and like it just because it seems like everyone else does lately. What'd be strange is if it was a really unknown genre I'm sure that if people listened to it then they'd probably not be that much interested, but the fact that it's so damn popular is sad. I mean, this is just such fucking simple music to make. Well, trance being the easiest really, then hosue, then dubstep.

Don't tell me about how dropwubwubs have made a community that are bringing people together in love and family. Do you know how utterly cheesy that sounds.

If you can type dubstep after any random song on youtube and there's a version for it, I think that should be enough fuckin' proof. There's literally a dubstep verson of everything now. And I'm not going to make some dubstep for you, something I hate, to make you happy. I've already released my parody pop album and I think that crossed the line in terms of making fun of music.

Funny thing is, we're talking about brostep dubstep here, not like actual dubstep like Burial (Which I still dislike). I bet most of you don't know dubstep out of the shit brostep garbage.

It was underground for a very long time, up until around 2007 when benga & coki released " Night" which went big in shows, and the dubstep genre started to really blow up in around 2009 - 2010. I agree with you partially, yes, there is way too many people who jump on the band wagon, i hate it too because they just make riduclous comments about it. " this is filthier than..." but imo, its more support for the guys who make it, and thats all thats important to me.

If it wasnt a good genre, then how come its gone HUGE on radio 1?

And your not part of the dubstep community, so you wouldnt know, we watch each others back and help others.

SamK

If you can't produce dubstep, then your thoughts on how easy it is, to produce, is invalid.

End of :)

I know my fair share of oldschool, I may have only entered the dubstep scene 3 years ago, but i still enjoy Burial / coki/ mala / jakes / culprate and the rest.

Wrong. Dubstep has existed sense 2002. In Fine Style by Horsepower being one of the first dubstep albums ever made. Come on dude! I hate the genre and know more about it then you!

If it wasnt a good genre, then how come its gone HUGE on radio 1?

I don't know, the same way stupid fucking bands like Slipknot get on the radio? Shit things are actually the biggest things on the radio.

And your not part of the dubstep community, so you wouldnt know, we watch each others back and help others.

You make it sound like a religion. Well, everyone should know you don't have to be part of a religion to know what you're talking about.

SamK

I said it had alot more recognition When " night " was released.

Dubstep pre-2009 and Dubstep post-2009 ("Brostep") are two completely different genres. The focus of a pre-2009 Dubstep track was more complex beats (Garage) and powerful basslines. Brostep spawned from lazily, hastily producing Dubstep to keep up with the growing popularity and pushing those basslines into over the top, stupid sounding garbage. 2-step Brostep is uncommon but doesn't mean it's Dubstep. Most "Dubstep" nowadays is just this dumb Kick-Snare-Kick-Snare-Kick-Snare-Kick-Kick-Snare repetitive shit with annoying mid-range "bass" and terrible sounding wobble noises. If you have any doubt of what Brostep is, just take a look at any song on UKF Dubstep's youtube channel.

Basically my point is, "Brostep" should not, and does not deserve to be called, Dubstep. They are two entirely different genres. Brostep takes very little skill to produce. All you need is Massive, some kick and snare samples and really bad synth and melody. It's not a matter of which takes more time to produce though, as with all music, you shouldn't just quickly try to push out new songs week after week just so your listeners have something new to listen to. You should take time and put effort into your work, something most Brostep doesn't have.

Good lord, is there really any reason to get so pissy about a genre of music?

Alright, I can see how the mainstream-ness of it all can get to some of yall, but HONESTLY... there's no need to rage. I like the music. I also like this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-fMHms5Cvsw).

This song is relaxing to me if I have a decent pair of headphones.
The drowned out sounds created a spacious sound almost euphoric.
The rhythms to me are just catchy... Not really sure what it is about the music.

I'm not heavily into the genre at all. But I do enjoy it every now and then.
It's odd, but it can grow on you if you have the ear for it.
