Shortly after the debt ceiling thing, I started thinking about Kennedy and Khrushchev and Obama and the Republicans and the elections of 2008 and 1960.

Political historians have said that Kennedy was elected in 1960, of we ignore the possibility of a rigged election in Illinois, because he looked good on TV. Kennedy won the first televised debate when you watch it, but Nixon won if you listen to it. Kennedy was a charismatic person. Obama, on the same hand, became really popular because he was a good speaker. He also looks good on TV, which probably helped him win in 2008, just like Kennedy in 1960.

We all should know about the Cuban Missile Crisis, when Russia was building nuclear silos in Cuba, and Kennedy set up a blockade around Cuba, and the world was like 12 minutes away from nuclear war. But before this, Kennedy and the Soviet premier Nikita Khrushchev met, and Khrushchev decided that he could push Kennedy around. I believe they met for negotiations, I'm not entirely sure. But the Soviets built those silos in Cuba because Khrushchev decided Kennedy could be pushed around. The debt ceiling thing reminded me of that.

So those are 2 similarities between Obama and Kennedy. What do you think about this?

I'm pretty sure Khrushchev built the silos because the US had nuclear missiles in Turkey, not because he thought Kennedy was a pushover.

I didn't explain fully. If Kennedy came off as a strong force, I don't think Khrushchev would've built those silos. But because Kennedy came off as a pushover, Khrushchev built the silos. It's how my AP US history teacher made it sound.

Just wrote a paper on this. Depending on whether you're a revisionist or not, there's multiple theories was to why Khrushchev took the actions he did.
