Me and my BFF have a name for us that we use when there's something related to both of us. One day, she showed me the photo of her arm. The name was on her arm. She cut herself for me, to show me what i mean to her. So i did the same. It only happened once, and i wasnt aiming to hurt myself.. is this still called self harm?

If you cut yourself on purpose, yes you self-harmed.

As long as it was a one time thing.
Maybe finding a different way to show your friendship next time would be a good idea, lol.

This is a tricky one! Id say no but I have to fill out a questionnaire when I go to my therapists and one of the questions is "did you harm yourself to show how much you loved someone?" I think you need to have a think about this.

Erm yea its like a questionnaire I fill out some of its on my blog. I think its because I don't really know why I do it sometimes and I find it hard to talk about it so I fill in a sheet and we go through it together

As Kayleigh said it is a tricky one! But, yeah I would say that it is still self harm.

I don't think it is self-harm. I'd put this in the same category as getting a tattoo. You're hurting yourself to represent something, not to deal with any kind of emotional pain.

sounds more like a "blood brother" type thing. or "blood sister" in this case. i wouldn't consider it self harm, but i wouldn't suggest continuing either.

Why does it matter though whether you "self harmed" or not? You did what you did, it's done. However it's defined is of little to no importance.

This.
But technically, yes, you did do this: "intentional, direct injuring of body tissue most often done without suicidal intentions" ~Wiki
I wouldnt really call it self harm though, but don't do it again.
