They are to do whether you have them as a contact and a friend. + Means contact, ++means you are a friend.

There's no ++....only one plus...

+ = Friends

Yeah, a '+' next to someone's name means they're either a friend, or a contact.

As to the '++', if you're refering to the 'Member+' & 'Member++' usertitles, then that gets added on with your post count. Member+ I think is 100+ posts, whereas Member++ is 250+ posts.
