You guys should allow people to use PMs at any post level. If you want to talk to someone, but not only via visitor messages, and we can't put emails in visitor messages, everyone should be able to give trusted people their emails.

^exactly. it's never going to change. It's to prevent camming .... there are tons of threads asking why there's a limit in Virtual HQ. if you search them up you'll see similar answers

you can still PM a staff member. if you want to talk use VMs.

You can't PM until after 100 posts to keep people from using it as a way to Cyber, or requesting contact information, and so on. Because plenty of people join VT as a way to find people to Cam with and we don't accept that. By making them work for it we have a good amount of time between 0 and 100 posts to catch the trouble makers before they hit their goal.

everyone should be able to give trusted people their emails.

A huge amount of people requesting Emails from others are doing it for bad reasons since, if the person wanted you to contact them, then their Email will be in the Contact Info section.

This rule is here for a reason. If we remove the post limit, thats open to sharing contact info and requests for camming/trading picture. Since that is only what some join VT for, that would be the only way they could do that to make it unknown. There have been people in the past, that have abused this feature after 100 posts, and just imagine what they would do if they could do it from the start.

Also, bots would have a field day sending spam to the users of VT, and it would put more stress on the server.

You need to look at things from a staff members point of view, and this rule wouldn't be in place if we didn't have a good reason for it.

You have been here for a day. If you need to talk to someone, just use the visitor message system.

People have tried to remove it, it won't happen. Give up, go home. That's all there is to it.

Safety is VT's leading concern, PM's present a huge safety concern, be happy it's as low as 100.

You can't restrict who sees your VMs.
So "trusted people" would have to be all VT members.

Jess

actually, Thomas, you can restrict who can see your VMs...if you go edit your profile privacy (http://www.virtualteen.org/forums/profile.php?do=privacy)...third one is "Visitor Messages".

True, but it's still giving out contact info in public.

This is going rather off-topic.

OP - it's not going to happen.

It's to prevent people from just joining to spam. Everything the mods and admins do, they do it for a reason. Rules are put in place for a reason. We don't have the authority to question them. The PM rule is good, I think. Lets say someone at school finds out I use VT and they find out about my list of "problems". What if they decide to get everyone to join VT and spam my inbox with mean messages? The mods moderate your comments for a reason. I doubt they read through everything for fun(well, at least that's not the ONLY reason they read them :))

It isn't just to stop bots. If it was only to stop bots, it would be much lower.

Question. How can you give your email to "Trusted" people before you've reached 100 posts anyway? 1. Its really not that long to reach 100 posts if you're actually trying and you're not spamming. 1-2 days max, how can you really trust someone after that shorter time? 2. This is the internet, trust isn't something you need to be particularly generous with, this isn't a hook up or socializing site its a help site.

The rule is in place to stop people coming here to trade sexual photos or asking people to cam with them and it isn't going to be changing any time soon due to everyone's safety, just because 1 or 2 people may disagree with it doesn't make it likely to change if its in no ones best interest. This is a teenage forum where the majority of the people are not only underage but mainly vulnerable people that could potentially be targeted.

Considering about 95% of the offending VMs I have to delete come from people with less than 10 posts, I don't think it's unreasonable to have a PM limit at this level. It's there for the safety of our users. If someone wants to contact you off site, they can always use the Contact Info you supply on your profile.
