I am attempting to break my facebook addiction. I have it on disabled so I can go back if I want, but I'm curious, on average, how long does it take to break a habit or addiction. I'm planning on going 30 days without it. I don't know if that's too short. Is 30 days too short to break a facebook addiction?

it really depends...for some it might take a sort time, others a long time.

Agreed with Jess. It really does depend on the person.

This place, for example, when I joined I was addicted for a while.
(I know right?)
Then a while after I logged in less often.

I just generally don't care that I am addicted to Facebook. It is the most convenient way to talk to my friends. But, the addiction isn't a problem for the moment. :)

test show that it takes 21 days to break a habit or an addiction, I really should do this. In my final year of high school a friend and I are swapping and locking each-other out of our Facebooks.

Set your facebook password to some gibberish like 'kjfdngvkljfdffds', then deactivate your account so your account appears invisible and non-existent. You won't be able to log back in even if you want to, and no one will be able to tag you in their stupid pictures or notes because your account will be inactive.

With most addictions, you have to totally cut out the one main pull that keeps you coming back. A couple of years ago I was addicted to Runescape, and the only thing that made the game worth playing was the money you earned. What did I do? I went to this room where there's a treasure chest where users can put whatever possessions they want in the box. Those possessions are then put into a 'Prize Drop' where users scramble to pop balloons which have random items that have been put into the chest in them, although some balloons are empty. I put all of my earnings into the chest, so that I'd never get them back again. Without the money and valuable items, the game no longer had anything to pull me back in. I was no longer addicted.

I like Sage's idea of changing your password to something gibberish, as well as deactivating your account. However to make sure you couldn't get back in, you'd need to change the email on the account too, otherwise you'd still be able to change the password and ultimately get back in again.

Good luck! :)
