Well, I like this guy named Kyle. He is gay and just broke up with his boyfriend. I was driving myself nuts. So I decided to tell him. Here are the messages from Facebook:

Charlie:
I think I have fallen for a guy...

Kyle:
thats bad because?

Charlie:
I dont know if I have a chance
its driving me mental

Kyle:
talk it out with the guy and see what happens?

Charlie:
Im trying...Ive struck gold this time. he is gay

Kyle:
so talk to him?

Charlie:
I think its too early, he has only just broken up with his boy friend

Kyle:
wait till like he's better?

Charlie:
So are you feeling better?

Kyle:
getting worse i think, you?

Charlie:
not good mate. im talking to him. Sending him signals, but he aint picking them up. He is still not too good from the break up

Kyle:
Ah okaaay

Charlie:
He is a really nice guy....quiet.. Do you rekon its too soon to tell him?

Kyle:
props have to wait a bit till he's ok?

Charlie:
I met him at work a few week ago. I think we are becoming really good friends

Kyle:
Someone is talking about me, Lol ;P

Charlie:
Correct ;p

Kyle:
someone needs to put up a happy status too

Charlie:
Done

Kyle:
Yay

Charlie:
Happy face

Kyle:
Thats what i've been waiting for

Charlie:
i was waiting to see how long it would take for you to crack on to it

Kyle:
I was just watching to see how far you'd go....

Charlie:
Hahaa .I kinda realised it when i was makin your sammich about how i felt

Kyle: Oh yes? But you didn't know i were gay then?

Charlie:
I didnt know. But i caught a glimpse of your student Id. Got good from work and logged on to facebook. First thing i saw was your name in my friend suggestions. So i added you and found out

Kyle:
Hehe, oh well done

He told me the next day that he only likes me as a friend. I was picking up signals from him. Definite signals, then he tells me that.

Do you think I told him too soon? And was I being led on from the message ^?

Well, men, much like women, can be susceptible to leading each other on. It could be that he simply liked the attention you gave him and, because you showed him affection during such a rough time, he tried his best to get himself to like you. This is the case in many of those situations. The person wants to like those showing affection back, the person may be really sweet to them or comfort them in their time of need, but they just can't seem to make those emotions stick.

Telling him now may or may not have been too soon. Seeing as he just got out of a relationship could explain why his messages came off like that. Almost all people want to feel good about themselves, especially after a break up. It can boost their egos and make their self worth go sky rocketing to know someone else likes them, definitely in the way you described it.

He turned around and told you the very next day that he only likes you as a friend. Perhaps this was only because he is having second thoughts about that Ex of his, or because he still isn't sure that he is ready to date again. It can be a world of reasons besides him just not liking you that way. Try and give it a few weeks and see how the friendship goes. It's it breaks and falters from the pressure of what you told him then you will know that he doesn't like you. If it goes steady or, perhaps (by help of your end), becomes a bit stronger than you may just have another chance at it!

=)
