Depressed? Feel like jumping off that tall building you see everyday? It all happens for a reason people!

Tell you what, human behavior is directly related to the social conditions around him. Ever wondered why people in ghettos always fight and kill each other? Well, if you live in a community where there is a lot of hate, envy and whatnot, you're bound to behave like a dbag yourself. Why this happens is beyond the scope of this post as it would require pages and pages of text. Fortunately, you don't need to know that. The only thing you need to know is how to detach yourself from them *heads.

There are some factors that are directly related to the way we feel including but not limited to:
1. Sex
2. Money
3. Respect

If you lack any of these, you'll more likely be depressed.

Note: I'm no pundit or guru (I'm 18 btw), so, don't listen to me if you don't want to. However, don't be prejudice and ignore me at your own peril ;)

So, the answer to all your problems is.... Mindfulnes

Mindful what?
Mindfulness means knowing and understanding everything that goes around you. If you are able to understand what's going on around you, you'll be able to take control of your feelings anytime you want and however you want because after you are able to understand your surroundings, you'll be able to understand why you feel the way you feel. Which is what we're aiming for right?

The only way to do that is by meditating. Now, meditation doesn't mean that you must say silly "ohms", dress like a shaolin monk, shave you head and treat the opposite sex as your brothers/sisters. You don't have to forsake anything except your depression, greed, addiction and other bad stuff.

While some people are afraid of meditation because they believe it takes too much time or it is too complex to understand, it's actually pretty straightforward.

There are many types of meditation but the one we're going to focus on is called Vipassana. Weird name huh! Don't worry, you'll love it! Go ahead and learn more about it if you want:

The Practice

The practice simple. We're going to focus on the one thing that is present all the time: our breath. This way, we will be able to attain complete concentration and develop a very mature mind. Here's a handy list of things you need to do:

First set aside some time. I'd recommend no more than 15 minutes for the first few sessions. You can then increase the time when you feel comfortable doing so, it's that flexible!

1. Sit down on a chair with a straight back or on the floor with knees crossed. Whatever makes you feel comfy.

2. Don't change position until end of session no matter how painful it gets.

3. Close your eyes.

4.Take 3 deep breaths.

5. Breathe normally.

6. Focus attention on rims of your nostrils as the air flows in and out.

7. Notice every moment of the breathing process.

8. Notice how the air comes in and out, how long it takes to complete a breathing process...etc.

That's about it! Seriously, how simple is that? I wonder why people don't do that.

However, it takes time! Don't expect anything from it, the maturity will come with time, just have some patience.

Resources
I learned about that meditation style in a book called Mindfulness in Plain English which is available on Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/Mindfulness-Plain-English-Revised-Expanded/dp/0861713214

This book has a very permissive license,so, it can be downloaded for free on the internet for e.g here:

Should be a really interesting read!

You can some good information just by Googling around though.

What it did for me

1. Cured my sexual addiction. I used to be a real perv. Would *uck anyone except my mom. I used to give my sister a hard time by telling her to give me handjobs all the time and playing with her. Although she liked it sometimes, she felt guilty most of the time which is bad.

I was single most of the time because I always had a thing for girls older than me (last gf was 22 yo) and it was kinda hard to get those without some money and a job. So, when I was single, I also used to masturbate like 6-10 times a day or until no more cum would come out of my *ick. I would also watch porn all day long sometimes. Who can beat that? :yeah:

I love no strings attached sex, threesomes and having weird sex with my gf all the time but although I still love sex (who doesn't?), I'm not an addict, that is, I can control myself anytime. I now live peacefully with my sister; she walks around in her underwear and even naked somtimes and I never get turned on :)

2. Made me more flexible. Usually, I have to wake up at a particular time time, work at particular time, sleep for a certain amount of time...etc. When I couldn't do that I would go in a depression all day long and just sit there and think about bad stuff. Now, I'm able to do anything I want, anytime I want :yummy:

3. More stuff. Damn, I really put some energy in this post and now I'm tired,so, I'll let you see for yourself.

Damn I'm too good,
Josh

P.S gimme some rep

This sounds like it would work for sane people. Unfortunately, I'm not sane.

I have tried meditation. I tried breathing skills. Doesn't work that much.

Most everybody with depression knows this. It's not that easy.

And I'm annoyed very easily by this because you sound pretentious and mocking in that first sentence.

It's because you didn't give it a real shot. You just sat down and breathed, breathed, breathed, breathed again and said "Boy, this ain't gonna work!" Sanity is just an excuse.

Do I? I'm a really playful and easy going person I guess! :yeah: I just hope you don't hate me :D

It's really funny how you're telling me what I did.

I did group therapy and they made us sit and do it. I tried.
My friend Josh sat down with me and made me think good thoughts. Had my heart slow down, I felt calm, and then annoyed. I hate the feeling of my heartbeat. I hate my breath. I hate silence.

You're gonna tell me I'm just pessimistic.
Yeah maybe.

breathing methods are actually proven techniques to calm those in nut houses, oddly enough.

To calm down, yeah.
To cure your whole depression, to cure all your problems, like he's saying here, no.

I read about a practice called grounding in a book about Wicca, (I'm non religious, but pagan beliefs fascinate me and I have a lot of respect for them. Not just Wicca.. Btw) It really worked for me, but when I think about it... It sounds kinda crazy to place your head to a stone.

oh yea, its not a cure all, but it can help cause sanity to bring you to a point of healing.

I hate group therapy, it soooo stupid! Atleast, IMO!

I won't judge you! The only advice I can give you is stop thinking about the outcome and start doing! You're probably just overwhelmed; I mean, who doesn't like a quick and easy fix?

If you have time, you should read the book I mentioned. The first chapter should be enough! Dubbed "Meditation: Why Bother?"

And why's that?

I think that some of the points made here are helpful. Possibly presented a bit arrogantly but hey, guys, he was trying to help.

It may work for some people and may not work for others. Everything is like that.

As for grounding, that works a lot for me (and I'm a practicing Pagan). It's very simple and there are many ways to work with grounding and the body's energy. Redirecting it can be very productive and calming.

I really can't comment on that; it's beyond my capabilities.
