View Full Version : What would be your law?

If you could make, repeal, rewrite, or update any law in the United States, what would it be and why.
My law would be:
Legal gay marriage any where in the US.
The Christian church isn't the law of America. No evidence to why Gays can't marry. Homosexuality lives in nature and is excepted in many other cultures:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Same-sex_marriage. They help adopt children and save them from foster homes. They help the economy be attracting a new demographic of newlyweds in places like Niagara Falls, Las Vegas, and other wedding hot spots.
"Marriage is between a man and a woman is sacred." Yet one in two couples in America divorce. Why can't we give everyone a chance to live the American dream? Why should people hide who they love or marry someone they don't if no one else has to? Love is blind to race, gender, or culture. People fall in love with people, not crazed homo trying to destroy the sanctity of marriage. Let's make it so that everyone can have the happy ending they deserve.
EDIT:
Kk just go to town, make as many laws as you want. Everyone pretty much said "Fuck one law I got seven" So yea. Be free.

you're right, the church isn't. but many people who voted anti-gay marriage, are not christians. they are simply who believe in marriage between a man and a woman. the tradition marriage bed. not exactly a bad thing. not exactly a good thing.

Believing in something and making it so other people can't go against you beliefs are very different. Making it legal won't effect straight marriage.

You have a point in countries where it's legal like Spain, only 33% of the population smokes it. Just because it's available don't mean everyone has to do it. Legal marijuana for adults over 21 should be legal just like cigarettes that do almost the same amount of damage.

I would make monetary lobbying illegal, ban the government from making laws based on morality or religion, and make the U.S. a fully secular country.

Yeah, Angel... This is a tad strange.
Although I can see where you're coming from, Liberty and all that. If you consent to let your body be screwed after you die, that's their choice... Etc etc etc.
It's still pretty damn strange though.

If a person writes in their will that they consent for their body to be used for necrophilia....
why not?
And just because you find something immoral or disgusting is no reason to ban it.

To YOU. I honestly do not care if someone wants to fuck a dead body. It doesn't make them any less of a person in my eyes and I think they deserve respect. Especially if they aren't hurting anyone. Sure it might be disgusting or immoral to you or whatever but since when is that a reason to ban something? Sorry, I didn't mean to start ranting. x)
I just had to get that off my chest. It wasn't directed at you, but at people who think it should be banned because they find it disgusting.

Gay Marriage of course, along with adoption and all that.
Can you make a law where being in the "Westburrow Babtist Church" Is outlawed? (This is not a regular church. If you don't know it their Slogan is "GODHATESFAGS" This is also their website.)

All politicians would be required to wear a thick iron collar around their neck attached to a ball and chain. The chain will be five feet in length regardless of their height- no exceptions. This will be done so that politicians do not forget who their masters are.
If a politician quits their job, they are forbidden from holding any administrative role in a corporation.
Corporate personhood will cease to exist and only individual citizens may make monetary campaign contributions to politicians. All contributions will be public information- no exceptions.
All drugs will be legalized and taxed.
All citizens presently in jail for non-violent drug charges will be pardoned.
All publicly funded foreign aid programs will end.
All troops overseas will be returned home regardless of the state of whichever country they were in. These troops will be put to work rebuilding infrastructure and other public projects.
That's all I can think of for now.

if they came to one of my relatives funerals and picketed i would be angry but i would respect their right to do it because its their freedom of speech. the first amendment wasnt made so that only people with opinions which we like or agree with are allowed to represent their views it was made so that even when people with different opinions can voice them. (if they came to my property then i would scare them off with a shotgun because that would be trespassing  )

I'd repeal all current laws and make the initiation of force illegal. Force being defined as an action taken against a person without their consent. Person defined as any being that has sapience and/or viable human offspring.
Common law would flesh this out and make it more clear as to what may or may not constitute initiation of force.

Why do i always have different opinions no matter what lol
Only 2 children aloud per family, this should keep overpopulation waiting until there is a war to kill mostly everbody.
A group containing 20 people to rule the world, this should get globalization working faster.
All Sexuality Marriages and Adoptions Aloud, this should get rid of a big problem.
Religion to be contained, Personal...
Also most military money put into the Space Program, this should also get us a Planet before Overpopulation if Wars dont appear.
5 Languages picked to be taught in every school in the world, I personally think this would improve everyone's communication.
Umm i think thats it... hope u guys agree with me on some of these.

A much harder line on secularism, explicitly prohibiting things like prayer in public schools and the Ten Commandments on public land; along with the repeal of the 1954 amendment to the Pledge of Allegiance and a removal of government subsidies for religious schools and institutions.

I'd legalise gay marriage, too. But in additional laws, I strongly feel that anywhere - the UK, USA, France, Israel, etc should have legalised cannabis. It really helps people, and people don't deserve to be criminalised. Even the NHS' motto is "Your health, your choices." So it's a bit ironic that it's illegal.

Just ONE law? eh, nope. Doing this is probably going to result in a rant of sorts :p
First I'd get rid of god forsaken plea deals... people who plea guilty to leaving the scene of a crime should should NOT be able to plea to that when they really did vehicular manslaughter because the cort is too fucking lazy to actually have a fucking trial. Also, gay marriage everywhere, for the obviuos reasons that people should be able to marry whoever the fuck they want to, legalize polygamy, people should be able to marry how many people they damn well please also, prostitution, no particular reason I just feel like the law against it is a bit... pointless, and I'd lower the age of concent to get a tattoo, because I really want one and I don't feel like waiting haha.
I probably have more "laws" I'd love to make/rewrite, I just can't think of more right now :p

One law? Fuck that...
Make planking illegal.
Legalise & tax the sale of weed which will hopefully eliminate the underground drugs scene thingy (I forgot what to call it, so that'll do...). If people know that they can get good quality shit from their local corner-shop or something, why would they go to some shady dealer whose product could have all kinds of shit in it?
Order the execution of Nickleback, Brokencyde, Cher Lloyd and anybody else who I decide is an abomination to music. Fine people for playing a song in public by any of these artists.
Stop ALL state-funded foreign aid programs. When shit's fucked up back home and the UK has something like a £1 trillion debt (I think that's what it is) to deal with, I despise my Government giving billions in aid to countries like India which is rich enough to fund its own space/nuclear/god knows what else programs but won't spend that money on bringing its people out of poverty or African countries where to money is spent on arms for wars and not a penny reaches the intended target.

My repeal of choice would be to repeal all oil subsidies.
The oil industries are paying ridiculously little in terms of taxes; in 2009 in is reported that Exxon Mobil payed 0% Federal Income tax. While this is not to say that Oil Companies pay no taxes, the list of taxes that they do pay should not be shortened: local property taxes, state taxes, payroll taxes.
The new revenue that would be produced by taxing Oil Companies like any ole' company could be used on much more rewarding investments, such as infrastructure. An example would be that instead of making Exxon Mobil more profitable, America could instead fix up the Nation's public schools.
Of course this is only one example, there are countless things that America could do with more money: rebuild roads, build bridges, repair old government offices, remodel public facilities (I've seen my fair share of run down park centers). And, aside from making America a nicer looking place, putting construction workers is never to bad a thing.
Or, in a much more radical turn, we could divert all oil subsidies into green company subsidies, like tax breaks on Solar Panel based electricity companies. By making greener technology more competitive the U.S could greatly decrease it's pollution.
Oh, and if anyone wondered where I got the figure about Exxon Mobile not paying Federal Income Taxes, it's here: http://www.washingtonpost.com/business/economy/how-much-do-oil-companies-really-pay-in-taxes/2011/05/11/AF7UNutG_story.html
