Hey, I'm 14 years old and over the summer, it has been getting harder for me to fall asleep. I'm not depressed or stressed at all. And I've had pretty much the same bedtime as I did before school let out. Every night I have trouble going to sleep and recently, the earliest I've been able to get to sleep was around 3:30ish to 4. It's not really worrying me that much and my parents don't give a crap about it because they Think that I just woke up and I imagined/dreamed that im not able to go to sleep. I know that's not true (can't really explain how I know this, I just know that I've been staring at my clock for the past 6 hours before writing this) but I'm not really sure if this is going to affect me or not in school once it starts because I've had this for around a month and a half, but I don't feel too deprived of sleep...

Sorry if you don't know how to reply to this, sorta talking to myself...
:P

IT might go back to normal once you start school.
i have insomnia too during the summer break and the month of my final exams.
if it doesnt go away you should talk to your doctor about it maybe he/she can help you get back on track with your sleeping schedule.

Yeah I have the same problem, except mine never really stops but the way you are describing it, it sounds like everything will get settled when school starts for you and if it doesn't I would suggest telling your doctor they have a lot of stuff that helps with sleep. Best of luck.

Don't sweat it man, that's nothing. You don't have insomnia, and you probably never will. Half the people at our age just think they have insomnia because they choose to stay awake. I went from periods of not sleeping the entire night and going to sleep at 9pm. I've done that for around 3 weeks straight. After that I went back to a regular sleep schedule. The way I reset my sleeping schedule is by staying up the entire night and falling asleep whenever. I wake up, then sleep as early as possible.

I hate when people claim they have "Insomnia" when they can't fall asleep for a few hours. People like that will never know what it feels like. I was diagnosed with it 2 years ago. without medication, I could be awake for up to 3 days, without passing out for a few hours.

When I first started developing it, I couldn't fall asleep until 4-6AM, and I would always wake up about 3-4 hours after I fell into my light sleep. . If I were you, I would see a doctor if your sleeping habits don't return to normal. Because if you really do have it, it could get even worse.

Hi Blipdragon,
Some effective tips for you to beat insomnia.
Avoid taking anything at least an hour before going to bed,
Do check your medications,
Do deal with obvious sleep disturbances,
Avoid caffeine, cigarette and other stimulants,
Make a schedule of sleeping and awaking,
Do exercise regularly.

What time are you waking up the next morning, and how much energy do you use during the day? If you don't get up till midday and don't lose much energy of course it's going to be hard to get to sleep! I think you could possibly be over thinking it so when you go bed you're constantly thinking about not being able to sleep. It happens to me, just try not thinking about not being able to sleep. If that makes sense.

If it continues though, and you're still worried there's no harm in going to see your GP.

As for you 'tommay' it's not your place to start diagnosing people on here, leave that for a GP. Sure he might not have insomnia as bad as you do, and I'm sorry that you do. But he could have very mild sleep onset insomnia. I'm not going to say he does or he doesn't. We're here to give advice, not to diagnose.

Y guys, I think I figured out what caused it. At that time I was having trouble sleeping, I started a new ADD medicine which was also used for blood pressure and messed up my sleeping patterns.
