And i am completely shitting myself.
my therapist said she had to tell my doctor in case i went to him with an infection or something. and i was like "well then he would know that i did then and what if i dont get an infection he would never have had to know would he?"
just now the receptionist rang me and was like "your doctor is requesting to see you after a phone call from your therapist" she said it proper arsed then said "would you like me to book you in for next week" all nice and cheesy. i just feel like a total dick and i dunno what im supposed to do about it? and i have no idea what my therapist has said to him or what the hell he wants to see me for? and im getting proper worked up over it. i dunno what im supposed to do? arrrrgh

I think you should go hun. doctor will probably tell you about risks of infection, possible nerve damage warn you of danger of cutting an artery etc.
Maybe advise alternate coping strategies, ask how your therapy is going.
then check you over and send you back to your therapist. There's nothing to be scared of. They all just want to help you x

They are only going to check you over to make sure your okay, i think they are just worried and trying to help. You should go, its not that bad. I got a talk about where all the main veins/arterys are and told to avoid them at all costs. They will talk to you about making sure you keep wounds clean.

its probably just precaution, they'll check you over for infections. Give you something if there are anything, and send you on your way. Theyre just looking out for you, I think it should be fine, if the doctor doesnt check you and you get an infection, it goes down as a fault of the system, so they have to do it. I shouldnt worry to much. xx

i said id phone them back next week but i dont know what im going to do yet.
i have only seen my doctor once before and he just loaded me up with prozac and sent me on my way so i dont really have much faith in him to be honest.
on the other side im not stupid and i dont want to be sat in a lecture that drones on for half a hour
i had a dream the other night that i went and i got taken away and sectioned before anything happened. i think im more scared of something like this happening tbh

Don't worry dude. The doctors have seen this kind of thing all the time. I'm sure it's just regulation. Im pretty sure he won't judge. In fact, I used to cut and I told people about it. They didn't treat me any different.

anything said to your therapist should have been confidential. which means, they shouldn't have been able to tell your normal pcp what you discuss in therapy. i'm very surprised this was done. it goes against hippa laws in a big way! your personal information can't be given out, even to another hospital or doctor with a signed consent from your parents, unless you're 18.

so you signed a document saying they could share your information? without that she broke the law, in a big way and is risking their license, medical license i mean. i wouldn't risk that. hippa was made to protect you and stands no matter what.

But confidentiality doesn't apply when it risks your well being, for all her therapist knows she could be cutting really deep, some could need medical attention, she has a duty of care to her. Sure maybe she could of done it better, let her make the appointment herself or be there when they were on the phone. But at the end of the day this is probably for the best, don't worry about the appointment it'll be fine. :)

it absolutely applies!!! that's what hippa is for! her therapist has the right to have her committed for a hold and evaluation, they do not have the right to inform anyone or any other medical office of confidential information without written consent of the patient or patients legal guardian.

Well my counsellor informs other medical professionals about me without my consent. I'm sure this is pretty standard practice.

nope, it's against hippa. look into it. you have private, confidential rights. a doctor can't even send your file to a new doctor without signed authorization. now, you may have signed something, or your parents, when you began treatment saying information could be shared, but a document was signed to cover their ass.

You don't live in the UK though so it could be different maybe, I'm not sure if Kayleigh lives here or not?
Anyway the thread is being taken off track. At the end of the day she shouldn't worry about seeing the doctor. They'll be unjudgemental and just look out for her well being.

Try not to stress to much,my situation was alittle bit different, but I still had to go to the doctor, all he did,was check my cuts & burns over, ask me the last time I did it,and make me fill out a sheet. Things should go fine.
