so my therapist made me this chart thing.
what happens is i have to mark on the chart between 1 and 100 how i feel when i really want to do it then i have to do 5 things that last about 10 minutes each and if i still want to after that i can (its supposed to reduce my emotional stress levels so if i still do it after the five things then i should do it less that what i was going to in the first place)
eg
when i want to do it i am emotionally 75% up the chart then i
1. walk to the shop and back
2. paint my nails
3. wash and dry my hair
4. play on my playstation
5. read my book
then i measure on the chart again and i should be about 25% on the chart
you can put anything you like to do in place of the 5 things. what ever works for you
but she said i can stop and do it at any time but it will reduce the urge hopefully
just thought id share :)

I have found that causing pain in a more healthy way helped me. I used to cut a lot. But before I stopped, I would take hot showers (really hot) and wear rubber bands and snap them on myself. I know it really doesn't sound like much but it really reduced the urge. It's all a mental game to me. Now I'm just good at winning.

i tend to do things like that, it works most the time, instead however I
1.play the piano
2. go for a walk (the dog always needs walking so its fine)
3. have a shower when I get back
4. play on computer games
(and if I need to) 5. Go talk to a friend :) :L
It does actually work, and all the walking and constructive stuff makes you feel better. x

I've tried that before, but just without the chart :) Just the keeping yourself busy thing.. making a list and doing everything on it, and hopefully the urge would be reduced after that. I think it's actually one of the most effective ways to stop it, to be honest.

I don't use a chart or anything, but I do have things that I do if I get the urge.
Most of the time I just say, "No. Fuck it. Fuck this shit." and go for a walk, completely ignoring the urge until it's gone. Going out, seeing the world. Watching people commute, the wind blow the trees, the birds fly, just watch everything around me. It makes me think about the world, how even though theres trillions and trillions of people, the smallest thing you do can affect the world in a good way. I planted a tree a long time ago when I was little, its not fully grown but theres already a birds nest there. I made a home for a family of birds, and it will serve as a home for many many years. Small things like that make me feel good, because I helped make life better for something else. Positive thinking like this, even when times are at their worst for me, are what calm me down. I suggest some of you give it a try. Even the smallest things you do can affect lifes. You see trash on the ground? Pick it up and throw it away. You just saved an animals life. Go to a local corner store and buy something. You just contributed to a small business and made the owners life a little better. There's so many small things you can do to make a big difference and give you a little boost, because you alone just improved the world. I don't know about you, but that always makes me feel better.
