Sorry I went a little off subject in the military spending thread. I'd like to post this to see what you think about government run healthcare if you think it's good for your country or not and why.

Healthcare is good, mate.... We'd kind of die without it.
If you mean centralized healthcare... I really don't have enough information to have an opinion. However, privatized business creates competition, so I'm going to say it's not very good.
However, I hear Canada has a very good system in place.

From best to worst:
- Private, free market healthcare
- Centralized healthcare
- PRivate, regulated healthcare
This is based on the principals of the free market. I believe that any country with private, but regulated healthcare is "doing it wrong."

I agree with Austin on this one. A country with private regulated healthcare is not taking a step in the correct direction. If we were to have a private and free market healthcare system, without the interference of insurance companies, would be beneficial to the citizens of the United States.

I don't think that getting insurance companies out of the equation is the right idea. Insurance like that exists for a reason. What really need to happen is people need to realize that getting insurance through their job is one of the worst ways to do it, macro-economically speaking. It removes most of the competition from the market therefore driving up prices of everything to do with the medical industry.

I agree. While some insurance is a great idea, they have become bloated and def do not have the insurers best interests at hear in a lot of cases. Name something that the government has their hands in that is not a mess..Social Security is the best example-- already the health case industry is lining Washington to throw millions of $$ to lawmakers. I hope there are portions of "Obama Care" that gets repealed. Free market and competition is the best. The government does not need to be regulating my healthcare.IMO.

This completely...

The reasons why insurance companies came into existence in the first place is because due to government regulations, the cost of healthcare increased. Americans couldn't cope with the increases so insurance was born to subsidize the cost. Before simple doctor visits and simple prescriptions could easily be paid out of pocket without insurance at an affordable rate. Doctors made house calls and medicine was cheaper and accessible.
The best way to cure this healthcare problem is to take the power away from the politicians, bureaucrats, and insurance companies, and give it back to the doctors and private practices. You the patience deal with and pay the doctor directly. You can see any doctor you want without an insurance company telling you who you can't see?
Healthcare not a right. People don't have an obligation to a good or service. If the government thinks they can force doctors to treat patients for nothing or little cost, that's when they're wrong.
With the constant threat of malpractice suits, bureaucratic red tape, and regulations you will provide less incentive to become a doctor. Sure you can pass a bill to say everyone can have healthcare, but if you don't have the doctors to meet the demand, then you aren't helping anyone.
