Why don't you ask a friend of a friend to get in contact with him. Going to the movies or whatever in a large group of friends and acquaintances would be a good excuse to talk to him. Have a facebook? Try friending him and seeing some of things he likes. Trying to hard might look desperate but being friendly and more outgoing could help. It's also important to be yourself but being more forward and taking risk ins't wrong. You also have to stay positive.

Just be yourself you dont have to change your appearance or anything maybe just a little makeup or a different hairstyle. If you have a class with him and you see him before that class just catch up with him and say hey and maybe ask how he did on the homework or something. You could offer to tutor him or just have study dates together and just hang out. Also to feel more confident around him you must first feel confident in yourself. Look at yourself in the mirror and compliment yourself. Invite him to hang out with you and your friends catch a movie or hang out somewhere.
