Your mom has one, Your dad has one, Your uncle has one, Your granny has one, even your pet watermelon has one.
Why can't I have one???
I'm not of age to get a job, so I definitely can't afford a contract.
That's really the only thing holding me back.
Can anyone tell me where I could buy one with a REALLY cheap contract or none at all?
I'm currently on Virgin Mobile, and I am aware that they have two smartphones, but I have a tablet with Android 2.1 (it works HORRIBLY for me) and I don't want a phone that will act the same way.
Sorry if I was unclear. All help is seriously appreciated.
Thank ye all.

Smartphones are expensive, you know. Just like their corresponding contract.
So your parents may not have the money for that, or they may be unwilling to spend it on a smartphone.
Ask them, that might clear up some things.

Again, I can actually afford the phones, but it's the bleeding contracts.
Also, as for the iPhone, i'd prefer an iTouch since the two are almost the same when it comes to their functions.

That probably is the case. Though I have insisted that I be the one purchase the actual phone.

...and yes, I am very well aware of that.

It really depends on the needs is it not?
Or is it a want?
Yea smartphones are quite hefty and binds along with a contract, but if the purpose to get it is because everyone has it then the approach is wrong.
In Singapore we have an option to get it without a contract but it will be a notch more expensive.
In actual fact is not buying the phone that's the problem, it's the maintenance and the upkeep you need to take note off.

Unfortunately, that is what the carries want is to lock u up with a long term data package contract...that is the way they make their $$$. Even if you purchase an unlocked phone from ebay you still have to get a data plan. Maybe offer your parents a compromise and offer to pay for 1/2 the data package... get a phone that goes is wifi and use wifi 90% of the time to make sure you don't go over the data limits. Skype and some others offer an app to use your phone functions when on wi-fi, I guess try to be a little creative in your approach and you may be rewarded.

My friends both have some sort of LG smartphones with Android that are nice, under Virgin Mobile.
The screen isn't as high res as the iPhone, nor does it perform as well, judging my Angry birds gameplay.
I don't know what model it is though, but it's straight from Virgin.
Actually just googled it, it's this I think:

It's a good phone actually. And Android on it works really well.
