That way if we get sick and tired from getting the same god damn answer we can lock it and that way it can save the mods some time

That would be nice.

no as the privilege would be abused by people and its puts mod out a job thats their whole reason of being is lock the threads if we could do it ourselves what would the point in having mods and progression i mean i do understand where u r coming from but you have to live with it the whole point of a forum is too post if u want ur thread locked report it :)

Maybe only people who are above the rank 100+ but it can't put a mod out of a position because locking threads is the least of there worrys and they have to protect us from trolls and crap like that meaning they probably won't mind it and I meant only our thread by the way

I dont think that is possible within the permission system of vBulletin. If you use the report button and ask a moderator to lock your thread it will get dealt with pretty quickly.

and how do u think they do that perhaps by locking threads/banning people? so yes by giving that right for us to lock our own threads would put them out of a job VT is fine with mods locking them

Mods aren't only here to lock threads, you know.

This.

This could lead to abuse of the system because then it would be too easy to post bad things.
Plus, vB probably doesn't allow that, like Nick said.

i know thats not all they do but its a big part of their job and yes i agrreee iw ould lead to abuse of the system as i stated in my earlier post

Dont get me wrong it would be a very very nice idea but it is not going to happen due to all the reasons stated above

EDIT

Mods are fast as i requested a thread locked about 5-10 mins ago and i checked and it already has been locked

Mods aren't always online, you know. I would like this, but I don't think it would be possible, and if it were it would undoubtedly be at a price.

While it is possible permission wise its best to leave it to the moderators. It would get annoying if people would lock a very good thread people are enjoying just to be a prick or wanted to get the last word in a debate then lock it.

Some staff (Moderators, Global Moderators and Admins alike) choose to "Appear Offline" or use the "Invisible" mode. Chances are, one of us will be on.

However, always always assume someone is online and watching.

Oh, come on! You expect me to believe that there's always at least one mod about? 98% of the time maybe, but not always.

Anyway, looking at the for/against arguments, I've changed my mind. No, shouldn't happen.

it would be great, but it would get abused.

possible in permissions, but not going to happen. some people are going to abuse it. locking is for the mods to do, not ordinary users.

Since when does "over an hour" mean "about a day"? Anyways it wouldn't have mattered because the person who posted that topic probably wasn't going to lock it. It's not hard to report something, a mod will eventually get to it and take care of it.

Why don't we just jump right ahead and make us all Admin. No. This won't work. Post moderation is vital to the smooth running of the site. This would throw the forums in a pile of shit. So, no.

It is.

It does.

There's no need for this - it'd work for some forums, but not VT. 90% of the threads I lock are the fault of the user, and it is very unlikely that user would choose to lock the thread - this wouldn't actually help us in the slightest; we'd spend more time correcting users' mistakes when they lock a thread that should not have been.

DoctorWho
August 7th, 2011, 02:20 PM
Maybe if you have over 5000 posts cause then it would work

xktx
August 7th, 2011, 02:43 PM
this is getting a little repetitive ..... :L but I agree the locking would be abused. x
