I just turned 13 and I will be in 8th grade this year. In my school district you can't start kindergarden unless you are 5 yrs old before Sept 1st. With my birthday in July, I am one of the youngest in my class. I only know a few kids born after me in Aug.
Well I have a few friends that were born in early Sept, so they are almost 1 year older than me, but we are in the same grade. One kid with his birthday in Oct was held back in 3rd grade, so he'll be 15 and in 8th grade. I think that would suck.
If I don't fail anything, I will actually graduate before my 18th birthday. Any other younger grade level students out there? Or any older students just want to vent because you feel too old for your grade level?

I was the youngest in my year, for about .. 3 years.
And even now Im one of the youngest. Im 16, most of my friends have turned 18.
And it freaking sucks.
They can all go out whenever they feel like it, and my parents arent the worst Im allowed out quite a bit too, but its not the same.
When I say out I mean bars/nightclubs .. its just what everyone does here.
And all my friends dont have to worry about dressing up to look old or getting served or getting into the clubs, whereas I do, for another YEAR!
I have pretty good luck with looking older than I am so its not too bad, but still annoying.
At least I'll be JUST turned 18 before college.

I was normally the one of the youngest in my class because my birthday wasn't until october of each school year. I graduated at 17 and for half of the year most of my class was a year older than me. But honestly? it wasn't a big deal at all, it's only a difference of a few month from everyone else and it didn't really affect me academically and socially.

So you're saying that you're the youngest by a couple of months? ..

Lots of kids graduate before they turn 18, it depends on if you were born during the summer months of school, like July or August. You'd graduate at 17 because your birthday didn't come yet.

You're actually right on track, don't worry about it. Lots of kids graduate before they're 18, you're not a special case or anything

I'm not saying I'm special, I was just saying I'm one of the youngest in my grade. I'm just stating my personal experience.
The reason I bring this up though, I have a cousin who is a bright little kid, and his folks are fighting with their school right now over this same thing. The school won't let him to start this year, because he won't turn 5 until Sept 7. Our family thinks this will hinder his learning since he is so smart. (he's been tested, he reads at a 1st grade level already)

The school is really stuck on their deadline. If someone had twins at midnight, one before midnight on Aug 31, and one after midnight on the 1st of Sept. I bet the school would put them in seperate grades.

I haven't read all of the other posts, but graduating before your 18 is nothing unusual, a lot of kids do, it just has do do with your birthday and how your school system is setup. :D

*rasies hand* I'm graduating this year, my birthday is in july. I'll barely be 18 starting freshman year.

IT's really not a big deal though. In elementary school yeh. But once you hit high school youngest in your grade level doesn't matter much.

Last year and the year before i was the absolute youngest in a lot of my classes (takeing senior classes as an underclassman), no one really cares.

I think my friend just turned 14.. Some of our friends in the same grade are already 16, but most of us are 15. He doesn't seem to mind and often jokes about it.

I turned 16 in November of my junior year. Only thing that bothered me was that I couldn't drive, but nothing else was a problem with being young.

Well I'm in the Uk so it's all different here, but I'm one of the youngest in my year(grade) too. Exactly the same as you I think I just turned 16 in late July and most other people I know in my year are 17/18.

I am the youngest in my class, I am 16 and I'm on the 12th grade, and since my birthday's also in July, I'll graduate before I turn 17, then it's off to college.

I was one of the youngest in my graduating class, my birthday being August 6th. I am the same as you, only I was one month after you and a few years ahead of you! Ha-- Anyways.

I graduated at 17, and it was 2 months before my 18th birthday (Which is in 30 minutes, mind you). There were 2 other people in my grade younger than me, one whose birthday was August 26th and another who was August 17. All of my friends were a good year older than me.

Chronological age means little. How you think, how you act, how you interact, these are all much more important and much more visible. How would anyone know your chronological age?

I agree with what you think about other factors meaning more. As someone in the same position as the OP I understand how he feels - perhaps it doesn't happen in your school, but in mine people discuss birthdays.

I graduated HS @ 16. This arose after spending grades 7 and 8 in Australia I was placed into grade 10. This was because the education system was far in advance of my school district.

I understand im 16 and im a junior this year. All of my friends are sophmores and they are the same age as me, well mostly all of the sophmores some are older than me. My birthday is also in july. The people in my grade started driving my sophmore year like 4 to 5 months before that year was even over. i hate it being a junior that can't drive. i was thinking about maybe being held back but now that i think about it that's a stupid idea. It just really gets too me sometimes you know.
