I have had both, and right now I only have a PS3, but I wanted to make a poll to decide which is better. Post why you think one is better below.

I personally think xbox is better. I mean look who has better security, has been out longer, has more members, has better games, and has less hackers/modders. Now the PS3 has bluray and all of that stuff. But look who playstation copied! The way the system is set up is very very similar to xbox. And xbox has the Kinect which is, as we know, far better than the playstation move. I could argue about this all day, but there is no point. We all have opinions and mine is that xbox is better. But in the long run, I don't really see how one is FAR better than the other.

As someone who spends hours playing GTA and Reach with friends into the night, I'm going to have to stick with my Xbox. It has a simple, clean interface and kickass online capabilities. There's a wide variety of games on both platforms, and the graphics are essentially equal on both as well. It's the online experience that sways my vote. Sure, the PS3 might have Blu-Ray, but I couldn't give less of a fuck about that. Netflix is good enough for me, and Blu-Ray discs are way too expensive.

Here's an unbiased argument for you:
The PS3 vs. Xbox argument is rather a stupid argument.
First off: you pay a subscription, yes, and there rarely ever is downtime; however, whenever there is a problem you have to deal with M$ consumer service, which as many of us know, is quite shitty. I'm not going to compare graphics, either, because graphics aren't worth shit if the game sucks. The 360 has Halo, yes, but the PS3 has Resistance.
The PS3 is free online. They had a hacker hack then, yes, but, after service was restored, there were FREE games given out. Hear that, 360 fans? FREE GAMES. 4 games in total, plus a free 30 day subscription to PSN+. If the same had happened to LIVE, M$ would basically flip the gamers the bird with a big "fuck you" and swear it'd never happen again. And besides, when PSN was down, the guy at Sony were working round the clock to rebuild a network that took 5 YEARS to build up the first time. In 26 days.
Dedication.

I like my xbox a lot. Yes, you have to pay for internet but it's worth it to me. They have more users then PS3 does. All my friends have XBOX live but not everyone has PS3's. Plus, I don't care about blu - ray, my parents bought everyone in the house a blu ray for Christmas.

I have both but I prefer xbox for many reasons. Even though you have to pay for online play, it's servers are alot better than the PS3s in my experience. Xbox has Xbox parties so you can talk to friends, PS3 doesn't. All my friends play Xbox. The PS3 does have slightly better graphics but I don't even notice them.

I personally prefer the PS3. But honestly I've had both, and the PS3 does have better graphics and better exclusives (in my opinion). Plus, online is free, and I've had better experiences with PSN than XBL... But in the end, we're all gamers, and that's what counts.

1. The PSN outage has been resolved for the past two months. Stop crying over spilled milk. Just because PSN was down doesn't mean that PS3 systems were useless.
2. Yeah, the 360 has been out ONE YEAR LONGER than the PS3. Big difference there.
3. More members for online? Yes. Consumers who use the 360 just for gaming and not online? That depends on your figures. The PS3 has outsold the Xbox 360 by at least one half million more units ever since it's been on the market.
4. "Better games" can be debatable. The only good series I find on the 360 is GoW (inb4 Halo fanboys flip their shit). Sony has had many more hit games across all three of their platforms compared to Microsoft's two platforms (which are basically identical).
5. Again, "less hackers/modders" can be debatable also. It's very easy to remove a hard drive from any console and remove certain codes. Microsoft only made it EASIER because the 360 has a removable HDD.
6. Sony copied no one. The PlayStation 3 was in development a year before the 360 was even released. If you hadn't already noticed, Sony made the first motion controlled video game called EyeToy for PlayStation 2. The PlayStation Move is just an improvement on that. Also, sales for the PlayStation Move on a month-by-month basis since its release in September last year have beaten sales for the Xbox Kinect by a mile. Not to mention that the PlayStation Move has more titles available right now and ones that are in production than the Kinect. That's why the Kinect has failed so far, because there were hardly any launch games with it. Games for the PlayStation Move were in development while the Move itself was in development, allowing Sony to easily make launch games.
Blu-Ray discs are way too expensive.
Actually, now that the market has lightened up on Blu-Ray, Blu-Ray discs aren't as expensive as they were when they first came out. You can get a standalone BD movie for only 30 dollars as opposed to the original price of 50.

All right, so my friends dad works at a rent a center and my friend and I were there on a day they were closed and they were doing inventory. So I brought my xbox games and he brought his Ps3 games. When we hooked up the Ps3 and xbox 360 they had there the graphics looked completely the same, we couldn't tell the difference. So if that is all Ps3 has got going for them Xbox 360 is better. Who cares if Ps3's can play Blu-Ray, that is what a blu-ray player is for. Xbox has more games and doesn't get hacked.

Before I start to comment on some quotes I have, this is my opinion. At the end of the day, this so called console war will always come down to personal taste. I've had an Xbox 360 for an extremely long time, and I've only considered getting the PS3 next month because Sony finally to cut the prices to something more reasonable; still more than the 360 like, but meh.
good point. yea for online: xbox, for features: PS3. in my opinion. One feature the PS3 will never have is cross game chat. :yeah: Unlucky, PS3 players as this is an awesome feature.
Here's an unbiased argument for you:I was happy reading this thread till I saw this first line. I really don't want to be talking too much shit, nor do I want a continued version of your shit vs. my shit, so lets keep it to basics. I'm just going to give my opinion of what you've said; past experience has told me, some people take things to heart and say some shit, but because I don't know you I'll assume you'll respect my opinion.
The PS3 vs. Xbox argument is rather a stupid argument.Totally agreed! So far so good.
First off: you pay a subscription, yes, and there rarely ever is downtime; however, whenever there is a problem you have to deal with M$ consumer service, which as many of us know, is quite shitty.I can't even recall the last time there was a downtime issue, besides that, I think MS's services (this even includes customer support) is superb. Every time I've HAD to contact them, they've always responded with the answer I'm after; or they've answered my question and I understood it and was happy.
I'm not going to compare graphics, either, because graphics aren't worth shit if the game sucks. So true.
The 360 has Halo, yes, but the PS3 has Resistance.I used to enjoy Halo, not so much anymore. It's all about Gears nowadays; or Forza, depending on the player.
The PS3 is free online.Lol, look where that got Sony. (I know, I know.. Old news, I just wanted to say it.) :P
after service was restored, there were FREE games given out. This was good stuff, Sony did some good moves to restore customer faith and such. It would be interesting to see how MS would respond if this happened to them. I'm sure they'd offer something similar, but we can't really say for certain.. We can just assume.
Hear that, 360 fans? FREE GAMES. 4 games in total, plus a free 30 day subscription to PSN+. If the same had happened to LIVE, M$ would basically flip the gamers the bird with a big "fuck you" and swear it'd never happen again.Free games, yeah. Microsoft reward their community by other means, without any reasons to being forced to. We are rewarded if we participate in their new rewards system. I think that's much better than being forced to offer free stuff to your community to restore faith.
And besides, when PSN was down, the guy at Sony were working round the clock to rebuild a network that took 5 YEARS to build up the first time. In 26 days.
Dedication. You're only told what they want you to know. To be perfectly honest, it shouldn't have happened in the first place. But shit happens, it's just good to hear they have resolve the issue; hopefully.
Xbox=Paid internet (nobody likes that)Hold up here, how are you connected to the internet? Because someone is paying you ISP. Besides, we all have our opinions on this. I respect Sony offer their services for free, but I really don't mind paying £40 a year for a gold membership with XBL; if it was £40 a month, then that's a different story all together.
1. The PSN outage has been resolved for the past two months. Stop crying over spilled milk. Just because PSN was down doesn't mean that PS3 systems were useless. All I can say is, no matter who it may be, whether it's some little kid or some hardcore 360 fan. The whole "PSN got hacked" story will always be brought up against the PS3. Which really does suck, because we all know it happened but as you said it has been resolved, which is all that matters. And LOL, which dummy said the PS3 is useless without PSN?
3. More members for online? Yes. Consumers who use the 360 just for gaming and not online? That depends on your figures. The PS3 has outsold the Xbox 360 by at least one half million more units ever since it's been on the market.Source? I've heard elsewhere that this is a different story. I think what I read was, the 360 is the most sold console in North America, and the PS3 is the most sold console in Europe. But the 360 is the most sold console of the two; I think, I might be wrong. An official source (not MS or Sony, because they both exaggerate figures) will set this straight.
4. "Better games" can be debatable. The only good series I find on the 360 is GoW (inb4 Halo fanboys flip their shit). Sony has had many more hit games across all three of their platforms compared to Microsoft's two platforms (which are basically identical). You like GoW over Halo, thank god. And ignoring the Sony stuff, because I don't own any Sont products anymore (soon though I shall). This Xbox and 360 being identically the same. You are so totally wrong.
5. Again, "less hackers/modders" can be debatable also. It's very easy to remove a hard drive from any console and remove certain codes. Microsoft only made it EASIER because the 360 has a removable HDD.Agreed.
Again, source? I've read the Kinect did better. But I personally dislike both the Kinect and Move, I'd rather just stick to my controller. Also, one thing I like about the Kinect over Move (I don't know if Sony has done anything like this) but I read on IGN, I believe it was, that Microsoft released some software to allow the community to use the Kinect on PCs and develop their own programs with Kinect, which I thought was pretty sweet.
Actually, now that the market has lightened up on Blu-Ray, Blu-Ray discs aren't as expensive as they were when they first came out. You can get a standalone BD movie for only 30 dollars as opposed to the original price of 50.I like Blue-ray, anything that allows more space is always better. But I own no blu-rays what so ever, but this is one thing I like about the PS3, especially when it comes to games like LA Noire; 3 discs for the 360, it's crazy but I'll survive.

Can I just ask two things, and mention one thing.
You hate Microsoft, what Operating System are you using?
What experience have you had with Xbox? Does this include XBL and connectivity with other players online? Because if so, your ISP can have a drag on affect on how XBL can perform for you as an individual.
And as for the PS3 being better I'm not sure which part you're talking about, but I've heard that their online connectivity suck. But as I just said, ISP makes the drag on affect.

i play xbox personally, il have to admit hardware based the PS3 is a better system but its online just cant match up to XBL, the graphics have a minimal difference, i find a xbox 360 with a HDMI cable just as good as a PS3.
Blue-ray? be honest id bet a hefty sum atleast 90% of people with PS3s havent used the blue ray player at all, and most of the ones that have would have used it once just to heck it out.
XBL prices are minimal so i dont really care about the £5 a month.
as time goes on more and more people spend more time online for me anyway i spend 90% of my time playing online multiplayer games and for that is why i thing xbox 360 is better, an actual reason not just saying that because thats what i have.

PS3 because of the far better exclusives and I'm not really all that into FPS games and that's like 95% of 360's game library.
I had a Wii too, but only for Zelda....lol
But I <3 my PS3....New Uncharted, Final Fantasy(The PS3 Exclusive game), and The Last Guardian comin out soon!

I own both consoles and in my opinion they are both as good as each other, however in different ways. The PS3 has got better hardware and the systems are more reliable, however the Xbox's software in my opinion is better, and there is more online stuff, (like Zune and Inside Xbox).
Both consoles have TV players, and just like the PS3 the Xbox will have the web.(I am realy exited about it :D)
On games, both have some amasing exclusives. The Xbox has Halo, Forza, Gears of war, Alan Wake and Fable. The PS3 has Resistance,Gran Turismo, Killzone, LittleBigPlanet and inFamous.
Both consoles are better than the other one in different areas, but in my opinion they are the same.

I'm going to get so much hate for this. I don't like either. I like Steam a whole lot better.
Xbox + PS3:
$60 a game
(Not sure about PS3) $5-20 for DLC's
(Xbox only) $50 for membership a year.
Steam:
$20 a game
Free DLC's
Free membership
Go ahead and hate on me, but I just like Steam a lot better.

Not to mention that Steam puts out F2P games that are more than simple shooters. Putting a game like "Portal" out for free (even for one week) was a smart move to get people into the series. When it comes to DLCs on Playstation Network, I think it's usually between 10 and 20 dollars depending on the publisher's request.
