What is up with all this war crime junk?

Canada is cracking down of war criminals and have recently arrested 5.

I don't think that war can have rules because war is war its no a regulated game. I think that anyone who thinks war should have rules like dont shoot unless shot at should hang out on the front lines for a few months and see what it's like.

The thing is War Rules as you call them protect the enemy as much as it protects us. i.e All prisoners taken shall not be harmed So you cant torture them to get information.

The rules of engagment are there to try and stop mass shout outs and to be honest that you mentioned is important as someone with a gun is not always going to shoot you.

What about killing unarmed soldiers who are surrendering after a fight they didn't even want to be part of? What about the use of poison gas or nuclear bombs near civian-populated areas?

These rules keep war as humane as it possibly could. It doesn't take any sides, at all. Like, let's say the Geneva Conventions, they regulate the unnecessary suffering a war can cause. Of course, that wouldn't prevent bloodshed to occur either, since it's war. Violators will be stamped out as criminals. It's international law they're dealing with.
