Is it legal to hack a PSP (Go)? Or jailbreak an ipod?

Yes, it is.
Why wouldn't it be?
It's your property. You have the legal right to do whatever you want with it.

Yes, you can hack it, it's legal. You can mod chip it, if you want. But you will loss any warranty that comes with it.

Still, you hack your iPod, PSP etc. to have pirate copy games which is illegal.

Its legal as long as you do not use it for any kind of piracy what-so-ever but you will losse any waranty and if caught you may have legal action taken against you...It does state in sonys policy with in relation to online that changing the aspects of the console is illegal and if played online will have action taken against you so dont do anything that will effect online but otherwise you should be fine

The fact is that even if it was illegal, too many people do it for prosecution of every individual to be an economically viable option for the respective companies. If you set up a business selling hacked or 'jailbroken' devices however, it would probably be perfectly possible for you to be taken to court by the companies whose devices were being sold.

Directly answering your question, a US court ruled that 'jailbreaking' an Apple device does not violate any US laws, provided it is not used for free downloads of paid applications, music or books (i.e piracy), although it will, as stated above, most certainly invalidate any warrenty associated with the device; Apple no longer has any legal obligations to repair or replace the device in any way.

I know with Apple, Congress and FTC said it was legal (Apple was quite pissed actually), however, in some instances it will make it unreliable but all you have to do is connect it to Itunes and reset to factory settings and no one can tell it was ever jail broke.
I am not familiar with Sony...but since they are getting hacked all the time maybe they need to fix their own stuff!
