im not sure if this has been suggested, if it was i am sorry for re posting. but my suggested is, you know how facebook and like twitter can send you FB or tweet alerts to your fone like if someone messaged you on there, you get the message on your fone and you can respond to the message by sending a text. i think it would be nice if VT could do the same. Send VM and PM message straight to your fone.

A great idea.....but it's probably not going to happen.
VT would probably get lots of spam from that, and it probably costs a lot to buy.
And what would we get a lot of? "lol" or "OMG, yeah" or other short combinations of letters. So that would be good for nothing. Sorry. :)

While it's not directly supported by the forums (And probably never will be, text messaging is rather expensive), you /can/ set something up through email that will accomplish the same results. You will only get notifications of PMs, you cannot reply through texts, it's simply not possible doing it this way.
If you want to do it;
Head on over to your UserCP & Go to 'Edit Options', check the "Receive Email Notification of New Private Messages" (If it isn't already), then go to 'Edit Email & Password'. Go to http://www.emailtextmessages.com/ find your carrier, then following the template on the site, enter in your phone's email address.
So if you have AT&T, you'd enter in "
[email protected]" as your email address.
Please note that doing it this way will route ALL email from the forums to your phone. So if you have email notifications for other things (Such as VMs, or subscribed threads) you may want to disable those notifications or your phone will be getting spammed with tons of texts.
Just make sure you don't go over you limit in texts (if you have one), as we're totally not responsible for any charges you may get by doing this. :p

Why? Are you really that interested in what someone said to you that minute? I mean, I go on here and enjoy reading and commenting on threads and stuff, but I don't feel like I need to be attached to VT 24/7.
Just wait until you get home to respond to a V/PM. It's not like you'll die if you don't respond right then and there

I dont think this is necessary. Facebook and Twitter are social networking sites and they have the capabilities to sync with phones. VT however is just an internet forum and not a site meant for that kind of social networking. And besides, its really not that hard to log on and check to see if you have messages.

Only way to get alerts and respond to messages on your phone is to download the Tapatalk app. It must be an android or iPhone though.

Number one way to have your idea rejected: Mention Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, or some other network of the sort in your OP.

We already said that.
Anyways, I've heard that texts cost a lot to send, ranging from 50 cents to $1 per message.
And VT doesn't have that kind of money, unless of course you'd like to donate....

its not jst the cost of text messages the current software VT uses doesnt support text messaging and scarface (ronnie) would have to pay alot of money to upgrade which would be pointless since this a help site not a social site.

Why would you need to anyway? That would be bordering on obsessive VTing (from that well known verb 'to VT' :P) and it's simply unnecessary. I'm sorry, but I can't see this working, for a number of reasons, mainly cost (to the individual, and the site.) My vote's a no, I'm afraid.
