I wouldn't lecture him about sex, it's not your place. At 12 it's highly unlikely that he's going to actually have sex so he's probably just curious. It's up to you really, bear in mind that his parents (or yours) might not like the idea of a child having access to condoms.

I would probably (maybe) show him one, but not give him one. I think it is up to his parents to do the sex-ed stuff and I would not want to take on that responsibility

A condom itself is just an object, it is nothing wrong to give it to him, but its good to ask him what he wants it for.
Its just like a weapon, itself its harmless, but its what the user wants to do with it.

In no position you should lecture him against it, as it may cause withdrawal from you, and either way, if he wants it and you deny him, he will likely get someone else to get it for him.

Somehow, he may find that he can trust you therefore he asked you for it, do highlight it to his parents, of his reasons and stuff.

Just have a nice chat with him but still give it to him. As you build a level of mutual trust with him, im sure it will be eazier to guide him too.
