If he's not getting it already, try and convice him to get professional help.
I'd advice against telling him the physical effects of his eating disorder and how dangerous it is, because they chances are, he already knows it, and I doubt he'd want people shoving it in his face all the time.
Tbh, there isn't really anything you can say to him that will make him start recovering. Eating disorders aren't "bad moods" or "phases" or "lifestyles," they're mental illness' that need to be treated by a professional.
You probably shouldn't reasure him that he isn't fat. The truth is no matter how much you say it to him, he won't believe you. And even though he probably knows he's underwight, he'll still want to strive for perfection.
You shouldn't constantly ask him whether or not he's eaten. Unless he's pale and shaky and looks like he might faint, then it's probably necessary to ask that question.
The best you could do is offer to be there for him if he needs to talk to someone. If he wants to talk to you, he will.

my best friend is anorexic, she says its a way she gains controll ... she says the weight loss is just another side effect which is good. The best thing to do is just be there for them, dont force them to eat, but suggest they get professional help, or suggest things like weight loss diets if thats what theyre doing it for, and if its to gain controll... i think the best thing is to try and get them to get professional help. x
