When you get the urge to chew it, put some tooth paste in your mouth

How do you go through so much gum?

During school, I chew gum pretty much continuously, and even then, I usually go through 1 piece, 2 maybe. And that usually lasts me up until dinner time, if not after that. What are you doing with the gum?

In an average pack of gum, there's 15 pieces of gum, so going through 10 packs a day means you're chewing 150 pieces of gum a day...That means you're chewing about 6 pieces an hour, or 1 every ten minute. All day long. Are you eating it like candy?

That's really excessive, how long do you chew a single piece, or how many at a time?! 0_o

I usually chew 2 pieces a day when school's in. One in the morning and then one after I throw the first piece out at lunch. In the summer I can stick with one piece all day.

Try limiting yourself. Just use one piece at a time instead of two. After a while of that, cut down on the amount of pieces in a day. Give yourself a limit of 5 a day, so make a plan in your head of when it'll make the most sense to switch out and get a new piece (after lunch, once school ends, before dinner, etc). If that doesn't work, go back to limiting yourself to one piece at a time.

Don't try to quit your addiction all at once. You need to gradually step down and make many small changes instead of one or two big ones. Otherwise you'll be expecting crazy results and just feel bad when you can never reach them.

Ill try to cut down the "use",il try to take just one instead of two, there are things i do everyday that i automatically have to chew gum,if i don't i get "nervous"(couldn't find a better word for it),and im unable to sit still, have to do something and my hands get shaky(more than usual).Which is why i call it an addiction,if not i would have stopped right away like i did with smoking.

Don't buy gum.

Solved my issue. I have a possible case of TMJ so I had to stop chewing gum because chewing gum is really bad for your jaw and if I didn't want surgery then I had to quit it, though I had a huge addiction to the stuff prior to that. But you can't chew gum if you don't buy it... it isn't around my home, so I just go for a mint instead. Now, the aching I get the day after I chew gum is enough to persuade me not to...
