Miss Winehouse, who came to fame with her debut album Frank in 2003, was found at her flat in north London this afternoon, the Metropolitan Police have confirmed.

They say that they received a call at 4.05pm calling for help for a woman in Camden. Paramedics were called to the scene, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The death is "unexplained" but not thought to be suspicious, according to police. Sources have told the Sunday Mirror that an overdose of drink and drugs is the suspected cause of death.

Last month, Miss Winehouse cancelled her entire European tour, after an on-stage breakdown in Serbia. A statement on her website said "Amy Winehouse is withdrawing from all scheduled performances. Everyone involved wishes to do everything they can to help her return to her best and she will be given as long as it takes for this to happen."

Friends of the singer had reportedly voiced fears that she was drinking herself to death, according to the Sun. They said: "Her drinking is totally out of control. Amy is constantly out of control on vodka.

"She is rattling about at home in north London drinking herself into oblivion. Three times this week she has been so drunk she passed out."

Miss Winehouse had several bouts of treatment for drink and drugs, the most recent in May. Her 2006 album Back to Black featured a song called Rehab, which documented her drinking problems and refusal to seek help.

In 2007 she married Blake Fielder-Civil, and the pair had a sometimes violent relationship. Fielder-Civil was imprisoned for conspiring to pervert the course of justice in 2008 and the pair divorced in 2009.

wow I hadn't heard that..I can't say I'm surprised though, she seemed destined to take herself out.

i kinda saw it coming, her and Lindsay Lohan have been on the top of my "celebs i think are going to die young"-list.As Hope4u said, she seemed like her goal was to wear herself out before she turned 30

Wow although she did it to herself, it's still sad that anyone has to die that young.

of course.no one deserves to die that young,no matter if they technically did it to themselves.

Its a shame. I never liked any of her music but I think she was talented with what she did despite some of the drama of her private life. As Jan said, whether she had it coming cause of her lifestyle or not no one should die that young.

We all saw that one coming, the woman was in love with drugs, she was a walking statue of pure humiliation. Good riddance, I can't say I feel sorry for her, sorry.

Hm, I haven't heard anything about this. I assumed something like this would happen to her but not this early. So it's somewhat of a surprise to me.

I think it's kinda her own fault that she overdosed. She was already on drugs for multiple years, she went in and out of rehab constantly and then she died. I get that she must have had a lot of stress on her shoulders but still, I have stress on my shoulders yet I don't suicide?

Just because you personally wouldn't turn to it doesn't mean no one else would. Everyone handles things differently. Anyway they haven't deemed it suicide, they have no idea what the cause is yet there's only rough guesses.

I've tried before, I personally would. That's just one thing I wanted to say. The other thing is that honestly most people think it's overdose anyways, and with celebrities you usually don't find out how they died very clearly anyways.... (think of Micheal Jackson for example)

i seriously doubt it was suicide, probably just drank (and did heroin) to her death. what an idiot, a bit of a waste of talent to say the least.

It might not be suicide, but as you said she drank and did heroin to her death, and I am 100% sure she knew that she was harming herself by doing so.

I pity those who are calling her an idiot because of the way she died, when they probably don't even know how she died. What if it was a suicide, what if it was an addiction, what if it was fucking food poisoning for fuck's sake? You can't be sure, stop saying such harsh words so easily.

She was so talented and left beautiful music behind to remember her by, I say she accomplished more than most do before they die.

Rest in peace, my dear.

It's sad to die so young. I was never a fan of her music, but she was talented. RIP Amy. :c

No, Bethany, she was an idiot.

She pretty much just glorified herself, and never did one thing to stop it. She bragged, and refused help. She's not an idiot because of how she died (yet), but she was a dumb fuck before. That was made clear a few years ago. She had struggles, but made it all public and flaunted it. "Ooh look at me I'm drunk in public. I LOVE DRUGS. All my songs are about relationships and how I can't handle them and being on drugs!"

She made good music, yeah, but her willingly self destructive attitude and crack parties is what she will be remembered by.

"Hey guys, you remember Amy Winehouse?"
"That lady with the beehive, messed up teeth, and a syringe sticking out of her arm? Yeah. I guess she should have went to rehab."

It is sad she died at a young age, but she did it to herself.

Speak ill of the dead, then. That's what you'll do. I'll remember the good things about her.

I'll speak ill of anyone who I feel deserves it, dead or not. We all know she made good music, and did drugs and showed up drunk to her own concerts. She may have been pretty with her mouth closed, and in her music videos but that's it.
She was trash. And I don't feel sorry for her in that sense. I don't care how famous she was. She was a drunk, drug addict, partying attenton whore. If she wanted sympathy she should have accepted help behind the curtains, instead of turning to the camera and smiling and going to parties to prove how much cocaine she can snort in one sitting.

Tragic and even worse at such a young age but agree with many of the above posts...she did it to herself.

Wow :O
Not surprised she od'd, but at 27? I mean how many famous musicians have died at age 27? Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin (although that was another era), and now Amy Winehouse?
Add another to the 27 club. Poor woman.

To be fair, her whole life wasn't self harm. Media glorifies the bad, I'm sure there was a side of her that was just as funny, witty, and interesting as anybody else. Obviously, yeah, she did a lot of bad with drugs and drinking. But keep in mind she willingly went to rehab a few years ago, SHE WAS TRYING TO QUIT. Addictions are a hell of a lot harder than y'all would know.

Hey, Back To Black was a fucking great album hands down. Amazingly produced and has repeat value. Don't judge her music over the things she's done. I'm being 100 percent serious. Literally. I actually enjoyed that album a fucking bunch.

But it's a good thing she died this year and not next year, because she got to join the 27 Club with some of my favorite artists. Say hi to Basquiat for me Amy!

A friend and I made sort of a tribute album towards her, the norway victims and Michael Jackson today, which you can hear here (http://cumdump.bandcamp.com/album/pop-album).

Oh shut up. She never went out in public glorifying it all. All she did was get high and the cameras were on her. She didn't care that they were. Oh wait, was she supposed to care that people made money and stories off her drug addiction? Why should she get sober for us or any fans or whatever? Why should she give one single flying fuck about what anyone else ever wanted? And why should it be our problem? Why should we give a shit what she does? Just bother it. Not everyone is wanting to get sober. Not everyone can come back once they've gone that far down. She didn't go to rehab, she died, who fucking cares. It's her life. I'm not going to judge her for the things she's done because I've been down that path and I should be dead right now, but I'm not (obviously). That's all.

And her death isn't announced to what happened yet, but it's quite obvious what it is. I can deal with it though, just like how I dealt with Elliott Smith and Rozz Williams killing themselves and GG Allin's heroin overdose.

And maybe the big reason why I defend her so much for her actions is because I'm an addict too, or maybe because she was inspiring a bunch of singers to get into Soul and Jazz pop.

I've never felt much sympathy for drug addicts, or substance abusers. I have my reasons. One being that my mother is one of them, and my dad was killed by one.

I know some things I say is harsh, and at times, fucking ignorant as shit. And you have to forgive me for that. Everyone has their moment.

I've never paid much attention to Amy, because I just got annoyed everytime I saw some article about her, or some photo of her. In the way that I do when I see pictures of Lindsay Lohan, or that Lt. Stone guy that fell at a baseball game, and is now a national hero because of it.

I know her music was good, and different. But I don't care for it. Actually, I just don't like it. Along with a whole bunch of other music. Like Slipknot, and Taylor Swift.

I guess I'm just a mean person. I just don't have much sympathy for her.

Putting her name next to those shitty artists is like putting Porcupine Tree next to Linkin Park and Nickelback. I mean, lolwat? My mind is blown.

Thank you for letting us all know that you do not care and showing that you do not care by posting in this thread, which shows you cared enough to post in it.

And yes, I'll be that douche bag that'll defend a crackhead with naked girls tattood to her body until my reputation is destroyed.

You can defend her all you want, my opinion on you is the same which is I still fucking love you.

I wasn't comparing her to those bands. I was just saying that I don't care for her like I don't those artists. They're in the category of "I don't like them" in my mind.

Sorry, I was too busy focusing my attention on the large amount of innocent people dying in Oslo as opposed to some crackwhore who brought this upon herself. People don't choose to be killed in some evil terrorist massacre, but they can choose to be downright moronic and irresponsible towards alcohol and drugs.
