I attended an event today

And I noticed something strange from the moment I set foot in the main area I noticed that people were drinking alcohol but a security guard was coming round asking people to hand over there drink. But I noticed something as this person was a security guard from a local bar just outside of the event he had no right to take alcohol away from people he only has the right to ask us to leave if we are causing trouble. Now this pub was obviously wanting the business so I think that why he set his security guard out to do this work of taking in all the drink now as he was the main supplier of alcohol to the event.

So one thing I then noticed was the fact everyone was drinking but he is only 1 man and can’t get around everyone. I then asked him if he has the power to confiscate our alcohol and guess what he does not. He can ask us to leave but he can’t.

Now to my main point of this thread when I went to look at all the posters that were advertising the event it said The ********* was supplying the alcohol for this event but it never stated that we could not bring our own.

Also the face book page set up by the people who run this event never even mentioned that we could not bring our own

[facebook page removed]

So do you think unless it states that we are not allowed to bring our own alcohol that we should be able to take our own?

Because I feel we should another example

A popular event called T in the park states that you cannot bring your own drink of any kind to this event --- it states that.

So I think we should as long as it does not say it is against the rules.

So what do you guys think of this and do you think I am in the right or the wrong and also what are your views on alcohol at events and the rules

Rules should be spelled out prior to the event. The organizers are responsible for the actions of the patrons who attend. I say, as long as it is not posted then, yes, it should be allowed. But, on the next breath, they own the land and can ask anyone to leave when they want, so i guess they could just ask the people who bring their own to leave. Most places here state their alcohol policy clearly in writing and enforce it at the gates/door/etc....

Oh yes I am sure that is what it was. He saw was "upset" when people brought their own. I am sure that the next function he has, it will be explicitly posted about ALCOHOL consumption and none will be able to be brought in. Even most bars/restaurants have signs posted here about not bringing food/drinks into the establishment. He learned this time...and I bet he won;t make the mistake again.
