How many teens take the subway? Is it easy to get around?
I'm thinking of taking a trip to NYC and I'm gonna rely solely on the subway and metro. So I was just wondering if there. were other teens who use the New York subway and give me their first hand experience advice.

I visited New York City twice. Fantastic place. Hollywood makes the Subway seem like a bad place, but I was suprised to seen how kept up it was. You just gotta know where your going. There many many different train going everyone, just gotta make sure you hop on the right one.
Also every single subway track connect to Grand Central.

I've been to NYC twice, but also used the Subway in London. My advice, know which train you need to be on, find it, get on it, and know you stop. Know and do all of this and you'll be fine.

Its pretty easy as long as you know where youre going. Although the subway is pretty much just for getting around IN the city and not to get in, youll most likely need a train for that to take you into Grand Central or Penn Station. Its easy, just listen for your stop once you get into the city, they tend to move fast and people are always moving around.

Thats not true.. Althou there are subways going to GCS, its mainly for inbound and outbound trains coming into and leaving New York. The subway has stations every few blocks, and the trains can go to GCS or Penn Station. Dont assume that you know the way around the city when youve only been here twice..

I live in new York and as long as you have a map and an unlimited metro card, you're all set.

The subway in New York is nothing short of disgusting. If you're in a group of 4 or more it actually works out as much cheaper and is easier to get a cab. But yeah for that to be economical you need to be in a group of about 4 or more :)
Peace God

I disagree. What makes you say that?

Some are, some aren't. I dislike the rundown ones that smell like urine all the time, but many subway stations aren't like that. And personally I think rats are cute so they don't bother me either. The subway cars themselves are very well kept though.
Anyway I've lived in NY my whole life and the first time I went on the subway by myself, the (N) train switched to express and left me stranded in some rundown, creepy neighborhood that apparently existed close to my own and I had to walk like 4 miles hoping I don't get mugged. So beware of that. Also try not to use the trains from about 4-7ish (pm) coming from Manhattan and the trains from about 7-10ish (am) going towards Manhattan, as that's rush hour and the trains will be packed.
All trains have maps on them, and the newer ones have a few rectangular screens that show all the coming stops, which is very helpful. There are signs saying where every train goes, too. There are sometimes police officers walking around, and there are lots of people who can help you out. New Yorkers are used to tourists. The great thing about the subway is that if you get lost and end up somewhere strange, you can always backtrack and transfer to another train that'll take you to where you need to go. Good luck!
