for a beginner your basic layering and shaping is really good :)

No idea what those 2 things are, but thank you :) i only draw when i'm feeling REALLY comfy and creative, which i rarely do but then i'm actually pretty good for someone who's almost failing art :P

School art class means nothing. you cant grade art. and basically you put things together good with a pencil :P

i'm a little lost here.... if you can't grade it, then why is art class full of grades?

Basically they grade on if you followed the requirements. I had an art teacher freshman year that graded on your ability and I failed out even though most people consider me pretty decent. And it was an Intro class... Grading art is like grading music. If you dont like the style your prolly not going to grade it as good as someone who likes that style. either way I think you did really good on it :) hope to see more of your work I'm going to post up two of my quick pen drawings in a few minutes also

I had an art teacher freshman year that graded on your ability at my school that's always been one of the criteria they grade you on. :l but anyways, thanks! :) i'll go check them out!

The first one is quite good, especially if you are a beginner.

The second one (with the reflection in the water) doesn't work because it lacks of nuances in lines. If you watch a swan gliding over a lake, you'll see that the real swan and its image don't have quite the same tone, color, and shape, because water is not a perfect mirror. The image will usually be blurred by small waves on the water, colors will be tainted and washed out, etc. Consider using less plain lines and more progressive shades of greys - this will give you more control when trying to represent such differences.

This looks very promising, as you obviously spent time to carefully capture the shape of your subject. Looking forward for more!

thanks! yeah, the second one doesn't look as realistic, i know :P but thank's for the tips and i'll try to improve it :) it took me like 30 minutes for the first one and another 1.5 hours for the 2nd one. (:
