If we are comparing the the past, its has been a huge step and the current generation we are in is much more open then it was in the past.
It takes a really long period of time before such matter can be of acceptance.
Stereotyping of people will take an even longer time for people to get over.
Its something that everyone plays a part in, rather than back seat discussion.

Its no longer a destination, its a journey.

I think being open with friends is a key to friendship... most of my friends know about me and I can share ALOT with some of them... I am generally a shy person until I get to know someone..but then once friends I get pretty open...just take a lil while to crack my shell.
