Like the title says
Do you think that movies should or should not come out on DVD the day that they get released
Personally i think they should as sometimes i just want a quiet night in and watch a good movie i dont want to have to go out the the cinema to see a movie thats new
Also i would like to state that very little downside could come of this i mean yes cinemas will get less trade but the movie producers will still get the same and stores will still get a large amount of income from this aswell
So what do you guys think?

I would say no the way it is supports local economy better and when it comes out on DVD it helps national and local economy

I personally like the way it is. Some movies are just "better" in a cinema.
The economics really do play a role as most cinemas are not locally owned, but they do support local workforces and I am sure that the DVD on same day as released would affect this segment (mostly teens-- I would say), resulting in lay-offs or less hires overall. Most cable systems offer "On Demand" that has movies that are currently being shown in theaters for a fee...grab you some popcorn and kick back and watch one of them.

why?
They would make WAY less money.

I dont think they should because that would be bad for the cinema's income... There would probably be a lot of people that would prefer to just buy it immidiately and keep it for later then to go to the cinema, wait 6 months and then buy it... It would be cool, but bad for cinema's

Clearly the OP did not do any reasearch or use common sense. The cinema brings up way more money, especially when the movie first comes out(if it's good, of course). The producers hope that the moviegoers like the movie so much that they buy the DVD as well.
Double the profit, you see.
This is obvious(for those with common sense).
Putting it simply: what Pim and Austin said.

if they came out the same day on cinema and dvd then there wud be no point in having going to a cinema cause it already came out on dvd and economy wud go down

No, because it would hurt local cinemas that need the profit from debut movies. If the DVD's/Blu-Rays came out same the day, then I'm sure quite a few people will just outright buy it.

They won't do it,like Korashk,Pim,and Thomas said they would make way less money.Unless......they charged a shitload of money for when it first came out.In a way, think of it as watching a play on a DVD,won't get the same feel as you would if it was live(which rather contradicts itself since a movie is just a play recorded and has better effects).
Plus a lot of people like the movie theater feel, minus the overly priced food.

Honestly it will never happen. The reason the movie doesn't come out the same day is because they want to make as much money as possible. I have no idea if it takes longer to convert the movie from the big screen to a dvd, but if it does it could lead to longer waiting times for movies to be released. This would cause a slow down in movie production causing our economy to become even worse... Just saying.

If you do that the cinema would not only lose a lot of money and probably end up closing as well. Why would people spend the money on a trip to the cinema to watch it once when they could just buy the DVD and keep it?

Um.. no. If everything went straight to DVD there'd be no point to have the theater.
I do think, however, once it leaves theaters it should go on DVD, without this wait time in between.

Cinema = more money and jobs. They're not going to go straight-to-DVD every time just to make things a bit more convenient for you. Many people prefer the cinema experience anyway.
