I'm English and I was wondering if it was true that in certain places in the US hate us? I know that a lot of people aren't racist in America, but I had a friend who lived in Chicago I think and she said people hated her and her family. She said that no one would talk to her in school and she got bullied badly and sometimes people would hurt her. Even the teachers wouldn't talk to her. In the neighborhood she lived in they had to move away because people threatened to kill her family if they didn't leave...

So whats the deal? I'd love to go to America!! A lot if you are Americans and you all seem cool! I was shocked when I heard some places were like that...but why is it like that?

In my school we LOVE foreigners. Well... I immigrated the the USA, but that is beside the point. I don't hate anyone based on race/ where they come from! In my school it is very diverse. In fact we had a kid fresh from Australia. ^_^ He was really fun to talk to... and he had a cool accent. I guess it just depends on where you live, but so far, I had 0 racist experiences. (I mean I am 50% Armenian...technically Middle Eastern.... and 25% Russian and I was born in Russia and 25% Hebrew. So you'd think I'd get Communist jokes and Jew jokes and and stuff like that, but I never did!) I guess it really just depends on the area...and the asshole count of the school. (:
Oh and I live in Southern California... and I never actually got to live in any other state so I am not sure how it is in other states.

Sadly, America is really prejudiced. It's especially bad in the South. We are racists, sexist, and the list just goes on. I can guarantee however, there is at least one decent person in every town. If you are visiting America I suggest NY or LA just because there is so much diversity you will be more accepted there. I know it seems silly, but Americans like to think themselves the top of the world, so we hate. (Not me personally, my mom is from Scotland)

I think there is some name calling but usually not to the persons face. And I think it's mainly mexicans, asians, and black people, not English people. American's CAN be really prejudice, but not everyone is. I don't think if you came to America from England you would be hated on.

You don't even live in fucking America. Get the fuck outta here.

Depends where you are. Most of the time you won't. I doubt a European will get death notes and whatnot. Now, if you're Muslim and from the Middle East, that's where peoples' hate goes towards to. Is it right? Nope, but it exists here.

Well, you don't live here. So you really don't have first hand experience. All you have to comment on is what you've "read". Which does not compare. At all.

Its generally fine, consdering the places I've lived. No one is just going to walk up to you and insult you because of where you're from. There are people in every country that are afraid of other nationalities.

Just be decent, and respectful. That way you'll most likely receive the same treatment.

I currently live in Chicago, and at my school there are some people who dislike English people, but not for any particular reason. The people that I know who dislike English people wouldn't go to the point of bullying however. I on the other hand like English customs and traditions etc. Certain parts of America are generally more prejudiced than others though, but you shouldn't really have trouble if your visiting. There are others who like English people also it just depends where you go.

Where I live. If you were English you would be the most popular person. People love foreigners for some reason, especially English foreigners.

Agreed.

I have never heard of anyone being threatened for being English in the US my entire life. I've heard of gay people and black people and Hispanic people being bullied and threatened but everyone I know would think English people (and most foreigners) are really cool. If what you're talking about actually happened, it's an isolated incident. The vast majority of the US would respect people from different countries.

America isn't that bad. We have our moments, but it's not exactly getting any better.

Holy crap! Sorry to hear your friend had to go thru all that.

Most parts of the US definitely are not like that. If you were French than it might be a different story...;) just kidding!

Your accent may make you stand out, but I'm sure it's the same way if I were to go there. As long as you're nice and people get to know you, it's usually all good.

Every place in the US is different. Where we live, in Phoenix, people are pretty friendly to new students, even foreigners. We are sort of in awe of people that are different, not in a bad way, but in a way that makes us more attracted to them. At least, that is how it is at my high school, which I love. Foreigners are usually accepted here, but of course biases exist, as in every place.

It might just have been the town she lived in.

A lot of Americans love people from England. And a lot of Americans have a thing for British accents ( I'm basing this off what I see around me :)

Where I live(South San Jose, California), it really depends on the people. Most are nice, but there are some of those "cool" people who will start mocking Asian accents in front of some Asians. I hate those people. But so do some others.
Most Americans here seem nice enough.
