Recently I've been smoking more and more cigarettes to stop me from cutting. It's working. But when I run out and can't get any until the next day, I find myself cutting more. It's a lose/lose situation. I don't know what to do.

I did the same thing. But if I forgot my smokes,or couldnt have a smoke for awhile for whatever reason, the urges came running back. The only thing I can say,is either start making a back up stash for those shitty times u run out,or find something else to replace it with. Like chewing gum,or popping tic tacs. The first week I quit smoking,i went threw 14 pacs of gum,and 7 tic tac bottles. So Id bit ice cubes until my jaw hurt. It might work. If nothing seems to help but smoking,if u do run out, maybe go somewhere where u cant cut,or find distractions, like painting, reading, writing, chilling with friends,or something.

Same here, only it's really hard for me to get cigs so I rely on the blade more. It's a lose/lose situation. But I've stared to make paper stars, and it's a huge fucking help.

I hear people say that alot. My view is smoking is healthier than cutting, and hey if you can go so long without cutting and you end up smoking. Maybe you might have got so hooked on smoking that you dont need to cut anymore, and then you can slowly cut back in the smoking till you stop.

Honestly, the cigs are going to hurt you more than the cutting. Obviously, neither are good and you need try to stop both. But maybe if you trying going on Chantix (which is a pill to help with addictions) and start going to therapy, you can get help.
Best of luck to you. (:

Ive read this before but you should try using a red pen and pretend its a blade. Cigs are the worst thing you can get hooked to besides meth, crack and other hard drugs.

Do not listen to the idiots. Cigarettes are much better for you than cutting. Any cut could be the last one. I don't need to lecture you about what's bad about each. All you need to know is that my grandfather has smoked a pack a day since he was 13 years old. He is now 68 and can still go walking with his wife outside and function normally.
If anything, even cigarettes, can make that urge go away I would strongly recommend going for it. Keep a backup pack (or several) hidden for emergencies (when the urge gets to much to handle). If you can switch to cigarettes that is something that you can quit much more easily and that won't harm you as fast or as much.

To an extent I agree with foxglove, that keeping an emergency pack of cigarettes is better. But as a last resort when you're alone and you've tried EVERYTHING else you to keep you from cutting.
Personally I tried smoking instead of cutting ...I STILL have the nicotine stains on my teeth. My hands also stank, my clothes stank, my mouth was like an ashtray. In the end I got fed up of it and quit!
